Michael Ellis has just moved with his parents and baby sister from London to a rambling Victorian house in Yorkshire. Not being able to sleep on his first night, he goes down to get a glass of water from the kitchen, where he makes the most amazing discovery. Standing on the draining board is a small furry elf-like creature that not only has the ability to change its size, but it can talk to him as well! Michael and Gwoppy, as the little furry creature is called, soon become good friends and get involved in many escapades. Find out what happens when Gwoppy meets an escaped circus lion, when he goes for a ride on the whooper swan, and when he saves the door mice from the black rat who is threatening to evict them from their home. There are many more exciting adventures to read about as you get to know Gwoppy as well as Michael does, who, despite all the goings-on, has to keep Gwoppy's existence a secret from the adults.
