Prairie Pearl: The Story of Ellen Stover, the first book in the series, shares the joys and hardships of Ellen as she strives for survival in a not so perfect world. The girls live in an era when woman's rights were few or non-existent.

In the second book, Prairie Pearl 2: The Story of Amy Stanford, Amy has a dream of becoming a school teacher and works hard at school. Her chances are slim to none of realizing her dream. If her father has his way she will become Bubblin' Bob's wife.
