Once upon a time there lived a pair of old black and white tennis shoes in a lovely white picket fence house. These tennis shoes belonged to a little girl named Veronica. These were her favorite shoes and she loved them. She wore them every day and placed them in her closet among all the other shoes in her shoebox when she slept.

At the miracle hour of midnight, all the shoes in her shoebox would come alive. They would quietly climb out, open the closet to talk, sing and dance. There were the tennis shoes whose names were Tina and Summer. Then there was Dorice the left Sunday shoe and Janice the right Sunday shoe. Then lastly there were the Cowboy Boots whose names were Sade and Jade who always talked at the same time. Throughout the night they would dance and play while Veronica slept.

In the morning all the shoes would pile back into the shoebox. They could hear voices and sounds throughout the day and evening, but could not speak or dance during the day. So there they lay waiting until that miracle hour of midnight arose again.

One day Ronnie's father Joseph came home with two new puppies. Ronnie looked down at them, then named the little black schnauzer Sampson and the little white highland terrier Gabriel.

Ronnie and her family left for Church while Sampson and Gabriel were left to roam the house. They went into Ronnie's room and saw the tennis shoes lying next to the closet. Each took a shoe and began chewing holes into what was left of the soles. Then they chewed on what was left of the shoelaces, leaving only bits of laces...
