MoreThe story begins in the distant future with a man called Tannis Gordon, a wandering gambler from Earth who roams about the somewhat colonized galaxy. Within the first few pages we discover Tannis is on the run from intergalactic mobsters who have cheated him out of far more money than he can afford to pay. Due to a malfunction in his ship's course-plotter, Tannis finds himself off course and out of fuel in an uncharted section of the galaxy. Unable to send a distress call without the risk of putting himself in the hands of mobsters, he has little choice but to make a dangerous emergency landing on a distant uncharted world he will later come to know as the planet Nardocheen. Until the day he'd walked into the Long Branch Casino on Tenasing-A (the city planet), Tannis Gordon's life had been a seemingly pointless existence, but nevertheless a good life. He'd made his way through the colonized universe as would any wandering gambler, by minding his own business and trusting his luck. Unfortunately his luck seems to have all turned bad. On the run, off course, out of money and out of fuel, Tannis is forced to crash-land on a distant uncharted world he will later come to know as the planet Nardocheen. In his search for fuel, Tannis soon finds himself caught up in a perilous adventure that involves: gambling, bluffing, daring rescues, witches that aren't witches, magic that isn't magic, an archery contest, a bounty hunter, mercenaries, a forest, black mountains, explosions, lords, ladies, true love, kings, elves, an elven princess, huge hideous trolls with spiked hammers and clubs and a third moon that he doesn't believe exists. With his run of bad luck persisting, it will be no easy task for Tannis to rescue the elven princess and save his newfound love before the third moon dawns. More importantly, with the kind of luck he is having, it will take something of a miracle to save the humans and elves, and quite possibly the entire planet Nardocheen, once the truth behind the elven princess's kidnapping is finally brought to light.
