James and Kathryn Richardson were captured by the G'naths shortly after they stepped through a window connecting Earth to the planet Azra. Greg, Sarah, Dennis, and Megan followed their parents to this red planet. When they arrived on Azra, the children met Azoo. After learning of the G'naths' tyranny, they helped the Azras gain their independence. Unfortunately, the G'naths sold James and Kathryn to the Cytes before the children could be reunited with their parents.

The Cytes operated nine zoos built on asteroids revolving around their planet. After traveling through the window to Cytros, the children were horrified to discover their parents had become zoo creatures and demanded their freedom. The Cytes were friendly but devious. They had no intention of releasing James and Kathryn. Quite the contrary. They wanted the children to become part of their zoo system, too.
