The three beautifully and thoughtfully crafted books in this slipcased set: My Guardian Angel, My Fairy Godmother, and My Magical Mermaid represent Samara Anjelae's first offering in a picture book format. Her insightful and inspirational text and Martha-Elizabeth Ferguson's elegant artwork complement each other and capture attention on every page. The text--in an easily readable font--is set in frames or windows, except in the fairy book (and, of course, we all know fairies are supposed to be unpredictable). Throughout, Anjelae incorporates interesting facts, an alphabet, likes and dislikes, universal truths, and other fascinating information. Endpapers set the stage for each book. My Magical Mermaid has an exquisite undersea world with fish, shells, flowing seaweed, and mermaid castles. My Fairy Godmother begins with a woodsy scene of a fairy ring of mushrooms highlighted with bird feathers, dragonflies, and all the things fairies like. My Guardian Angel opens with a palette of soft, celestial colors shading into bold purples, blues, pinks, and greens. The matte covers and high quality paper enhance the glorious colors and subject matter; particularly outstanding is the double-page spread of intricate painted gold circles in My Guardian Angel, symbolizing the grandeur of halos.
