Sometimes one small, insignificant decision can change someone's whole future. Sometimes the best kinds of treasure are found in the most unusual places. Sometimes reality is so much more than it appears to be . . .
While playing an on-going, childhood game of digging for treasures in the mud, two life-long friends end up in an argument. Anger, resulting from the dispute, leads one of them into a coincidental, unexpected friendship with a strange old woman digging up plants in a field. As the friendship grows and develops, the child realizes that the old woman is far more unusual and mysterious than originally expected . . . the child's life will never be the same again.
Quote from the book:
"Whatcha got there anyway?" she asked without even introducing herself.
"Just my treasure box," I said.
"You don't say! A treasure box is it? What sort of treasure?"
Stepping a bit closer, I opened the lid so she could see inside, feeling a little embarrassed since adults so rarely see the magic in it . . .
A tale about a child's fascination with the stars and universe; a story about an unusual friendship between the young and the old; a novel about making difficult decisions and sacrifices for the benefit of someone else.
A book for anyone who's ever looked out at the night sky and wondered if there was someone out there, somewhere, looking back.
For all ages, but especially 9-14.
