MoreOriginal watercolor illustrations of over 150 animals, from the familiar to the exotic, are grouped around the letter which begins their names. Each alphabet letter has its own page with the names of the pictured animals inside the large letter on the right and descriptive paragraphs on the left to help you match each animal with its name. On the back of each page, one of the animals described on the page is featured in a large, black and white, frame-able quality print.
The book is designed to be a springboard for interaction and further exploration. The text paragraphs and animal names are in random order to encourage reading with comprehension and puzzle solving. The oversized 11" x 15" pages spread across laps for sharing. The spiral binding allows you to fold the pages back and work with one page at a time if you prefer. The variety of animals chosen includes some that are unfamiliar to most adults, and they are entertained by the subject matter as well as the illustrations.
THIS BOOK CAN BE PERSONALIZED! The personalized aspects of the Zoo Alphabet Book developed from wishing that everyone could grow up knowing they were special enough to deserve a book that is uniquely theirs. Both the kit and the prebound book come with an order form for a label to go on the cover. This cover label will end in "'s" and can either be like "The Jones Family's" or "Veronica's." When the label is in place, the cover would say, "The Jones Family's Zoo Alphabet Book," or "Veronica's Zoo Alphabet Book."
With the kit of "The Book That Can Spell Your Name," the buyer can rearrange the page order before binding, so that the pages spelling the recipient's name (the most important letters of the alphabet, after all) come first. The first pages of a book for you might spell D-O-U-G-L-A-S instead of A-B-C. These rearranged pages become another puzzle that the children delight in and often explain to adults. The kit includes a filler page that can be inserted to stand for duplicate letters. This increases the range of spelling possibilities.
The kits enable teachers to use pages individually for single letter presentations and in wall displays. The book has been curator proofed for accuracy and contains examples of the special Spanish phonetic combinations needed by English/Spanish bilingual teachers. Although the text has a 4.5 average grade level for reading, the Zoo Alphabet Book has been purchased for every age from baby shower gifts to a gift for grandparents. It has been successfully featured at the K-5 level in Author's Days.
