Having always wanted to write and illustrate a children's book, I took the plunge in 2006. This story stars my handsome tabby, Samson and became quite a family project as I also used my cousins and their children as the human characters. It took almost 5 months to illustrate, working each evening and weekend. Children love Sailor Sam's cheeky character and the expressions on his face. It tells the story of how a farm cat, forced to leave home due to a misunderstanding, begins a new life on board ship as Sailor Sam, working to keep the ship free from vermin. Some of the sailors don't realise that cats are mostly nocturnal and begin to grumble about Sam's laziness. To prove them wrong, he decides to steer the ship at night to speed them to their destination. Alas, cats are not famed for their map reading skills. Where will the ship end up and will Sailor Sam be forgiven?
