The main issues facing race relations in modern Britain are the subject of this book. It leads students through the issues of prejudice, discrimination, disadvantage and immigration, and looks at the way in which the law and the mass media relate to the issues of race and racism. The final section offers some ideas about how students can carry out their own investigations into this sensitive but important area. The book is aimed at the upper secondary school population and should be of use in a variety of contexts. It is a useful source book for some aspects of National Curriculum Geography and History, as well as for courses covering Citizenship, Personal and Social Education and sixth-form General Studies. Finally, the National Curriculum requires all schools to operate their teaching in the light of multi-culturalism and this book aims to help clarify many of the issues raise by this development. The emphasis is on active learning as much as on imparting knowledge.
