A rape, a refuge, a recovery: two childhood friends meet again on the Ridge trails high above town, but in very different circumstances from public school days of 'my little ponies'. When frustrated, furious Maddie gallops her beloved horse up to the Ridge, the last person she expects to meet is Kate, still less a Kate lying battered and bruised, her bikie rapist long gone. Maddie takes her friend home; at Kate's insistence they go on to the local Youth Refuge, where Kate takes shelter. At the Refuge, they meet Nat, a shortsighted and nerdy student trying to cope with living at home, after what had started out as a blissful escape to life as a student at university. the three form a sometimes awkward, sometimes tempestuous alliance which culminates in their involvement in a local 'Reclaim the Night' march. Through this experience and related events, the three reject victimhood and work out how they, each, can reclaim the day.
