Here are eight creatures you won't find in any zoology textbook. The Kangarooster ("Hop-a-doodle-doo!") has three yellow chicks in its pouch and looks...well, like a chicken at one end and a kangaroo at the other. Pull a tab and it almost hops off the page! The Shine-o-saur ("A critter with glitter!") has flapping silvered wings. The Fluffalo is not quite as spectacular--merely a buffalo whose pink body is made from a patch of soft woolen cloth. Best of all are the Acrobaterpillars, which twirl, jump through hoops, and hang from pop-up high-wires. (Or should that be high-silks?) There's no story here, so the pleasure of the book is likely to be relatively short-lived; on the other hand this engaging pop-up menagerie certainly makes a fun gift. (Ages 2 to 4) --Richard Farr
