'Unbound by conventional notions of how prayers should be structured and worded, these children freely pray what they mean and mean what they pray. The result is prayers that are un-flowery, unedited, unrefined, unvarnished - the kinds of prayers not to be heard in a formal Sunday morning service. Children didn't compose them to satisfy a Sunday school teacher, but in a hospital where the stakes - the life and health of a loved one - are so high. He lists 30 of these prayers and brings in quotations from people such as Ghandi, Emily Dickinson, Mother Theresa and the writers of the Scriptures.
