This topic book was originally produced in Welsh, as part of the Welsh Office Materials and Resources Project: History. Using primary evidence, both documentary and illustrative, along with activities and exercises, the book encourages pupils to evaluate the evidence for themselves, and to draw their own conclusions. A particular feature of the approach used is that the evience is presented in the context of a developing story. As the story unfolds, the pupils are introduced to the necessary background information, enabling them to then make an informed interpretation of the available evidence. This book describes the development of law and law-enforcement procedures, from earliest times to the 1980s, with particular reference to systems of law in England and Wales. Different methods of policing, bringing criminals to trial and sentencing are outlined with illustrations and testimony.
