This anthology endeavours to introduce students to the experience of work. Through excerpts from various books it gives an insight as to what to expect from work, and the many different types of employment. It tries to answer the questions - what is it like to go to work, how will it feel?. Work is presented as rewarding, infuriating, honourable and morally complex, dull and infinitely exciting. The series aims to provide good quality literature which is chosen for its accessibility to young readers and includes many of today's major authors. It provides varied and stimulating material reflecting male and female interests and a real awareness of our multicultural world. The books are designed for class use and for GCSE examination and course-work providing material for wider reading programmes and the opportunity for more detailed study of the works. The points for discussion encourage pupils to consider alternative ways of looking at a play or story and to express their personal views using supporting evidence from the text, while the suggestions for writing give pupils the chance to respond in a variety of ways to what they have read, through imaginative writing, dramatic reconstructions, "genres transformations" as well as through traditional critical essay.
