JAN AND JEFF, by Cyril Ott, is a compound murder mystery.Three murders have been committed in the small city of La Crosse, Wisconsin. All three victims are young women aged nineteen to twenty-two, dead by strangulation. Each was alone in her own home when the murder was committed, but the women lived in different areas and were not acquitted.

There were three suspects: Ted Bendelson, a CPA who moonlighted as choir director; Jeff Andrews, a postgraduate college student, and Edgar Thomas, a housepainter. Were all three crimes committed by only one of the three men -- two of whom have already been imprisoned by court order--or is there more than just a single killer? Sam Sills, Chief of Detectives, is keeping his options open as he struggles, with the help of a college student named Jan Coburn, to find a common denominator in this twisted charade.

When Sam Sills comes up with the solution, he inadvertently opens a Pandor's box which leads to a meeting between eight people in his home. The information exchanged at that time will alter forever the lives of each of the eight people present.
