Primary teachers are required to teach science concepts and the use of IT as part of the National Curriculum. Many find these among the most difficult parts of their job - and few have any scientific or technical training. This integrated package including both a CD-ROM and support pack is designed to help teachers understand science concepts and to teach them more effectively, and its simple and user-friendly interface makes using technology easy. The CD-ROM, designed for use by KS1 and 2 children within a supervised classroom environment, presents lesson units on electricity and magnetism, featuring the characters of a wizard and his cat who introduce children to concepts and guide them through the units. Units cover topics such as: what is magnetism?; the earth as a magnet; electricity makes things work; simple circuits; series and parallel circuits; switches and conductors; and insulators. The support pack offers help and advice for teachers on using the CD in classroom situations, activities and work cards for children to follow, and a wealth of further information to support teachers' own learning. Closely tied to the National Curriculum, the CD package offers a uniquely focused resource for busy teachers. PC only.
