Ann Arbor/Sports Media Group Proposal Submission Guide Authors interested in submitting book proposals to Ann Arbor Media Group or one of its imprints can follow the format provided below. Submissions should be mailed to: Acquisitions Department Ann Arbor Media Group 2500 S. State Street Ann Arbor, MI 48104 Materials will not be returned unless author includes a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the proposal submission. The review process may take several weeks. Authors will receive notification of the status of the proposal following its review. Items to Include with Submission Cover Page: Should include the title and author name(s). Introduction: The introduction should include three parts: 1) overview, 2) resources needed to complete the book, and 3) a short biography of the author(s). It is important to discuss whether the book will face any competition from previous books on the subject. In writing the introduction, relate what is new and exciting about this idea or approach. 1) Overview: The overview describes the most important features of the book; it is the angle on the story that should interest potential readers. 2) Resources: In this section, list the out-of-pocket expenses you estimate will be needed to complete the book. This should include travel, rights, and reproduction fees for use of photography, new photography, etc. 3) About the Author(s): In one page or less, detail your credentials and experience as related to this book project. Be succinct. Promotional Plan: Share with the editor(s) your thoughts on the audience for the book and on promotional activities related to the book. Offer a detailed and realistic discussion of expected consumers and ideas for the best way to reach those buyers. Outline: The outline should include a list of chapters that will provide the editor(s) with a brief overview of the book. Include in the listing any back matter (tables, charts, appendices, bibliography, etc.). Chapter Descriptions: In a paragraph to a page, outline each chapter. To give the editor the quick essence of the chapter, begin the description with a one-sentence overview. Estimate how long each chapter will be (number of words). Finally, detail what kind of back matter you plan to include in the book (appendices, a bibliography, statistics, etc.). Sample Chapter: A sample chapter will provide the editors a writing sample, and how the author is approaching the subject of the book. It is not required for a proposal to be reviewed, but it would be a useful addition.
