Thank you for expressing an interest in Whitecap Books Ltd. In answer to your inquiry, we are always interested in reviewing new manuscript submissions. Because we receive many, we have prepared set of guidelines to outline our publishing needs and requirements for manuscript consideration. We publish books on North American natural history, regional topics, gardening, cooking, Canadian history, and juvenile non-fiction. We publish a small number of picture books for young children focused on themes of nature, wildlife and animals. We publish colour scenic books and travel; however these are most often produced in-house. We do not publish adult fiction, self-help or inspirational books, political, social commentary, or issue books, or general how-to books. We do not read or acknowledge submissions sent via e-mail.

If you are sending material for children's illustrated fiction, please send the entire manuscript. Please include : A synopsis A table of contents listing the chapters or stories and their length Information about proposed illustrations or photographs (number planned, black and white or colour). Never send original artwork or photographs. One to three sample chapters, which are representative of the total manuscript Information about yourself, including your educational and professional background, and your previous publishing credits such as books and magazines where your work has appeared Please include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient return postage. If you are submitting from outside of Canada, please include an international postal voucher Please send material to: Rights & Acquisitions Whitecap Books Ltd. 351 Lynn Avenue North Vancouver, BC V7J 2C4 We need 2 - 3 months to complete an initial review. We would then contact you, either asking for the complete manuscript for more serious consideration, or returning the sample material.
