After completing my D. Phil in biochemistry at the UK's University of York, I researched rheumatoid arthritis and later the rather nasty parasite that causes schistosomiasis. I started my teaching career at Bingley Grammar School in West Yorkshire, where I was also the Health and Safety Officer. I have been teaching at Harrogate High School in North Yorkshire since 1997 and I am the Head of Science there.

Science is my passion. I'm very happy that I teach science during the day, then write about it in my spare time. My wife is also a science teacher, and our two children have science-based careers, so that's even better! We've got a black minilop rabbit called Mimas and a horse called Dylan. That's Dylan on the right. He's bigger in real life, so you won't catch me riding him (it's much too far to fall).
