My parents (Carol and Donald Carrick) were a writer/illustrator team for many years, and several of their books were adapted from my own childhood experiences. I was exposed to the children's book industry at an early age, whether it was going to publishing houses in New York, posing for reference photos, seeing my father review proofs or lending an ear to my mother's manuscripts. My father illustrated over 80 books in his life (including books of other writers as well as some of his own) and my mother has written nearly 50 to date.

Art was a staple passtime of mine, creativity surrounded my childhood so it only seemed natural. I was born and raised on Martha's Vineyard and summered in northern Vermont, the relatively isolated areas made entertaining myself a high priority. I was inspired by fantasy role-playing games, the illustrations captured my imagination. Monsters, monsters and even more monsters!! After high school I attended the Rhode Island School of Design, aquiring a BFA in illustration.

In 1989, my father passed away, and it only seemed natural to try his (very large) shoes on for size. I have illustrated two books with my mother (and a new one in the works), some for others as well as a brand new one of my own, "Watch out for Wolfgang". I also continue to illustrate yet even more monsters when time permits.
