I’m an illustrator/author, and I love old-time rockets, retro-robots, and wonderful unknown worlds. I love stone buildings on crooked streets, with shuttered windows, behind which fascinating people with strange occupations lead secret lives. I love mice that wear bow ties, top hats and carry walking canes. And then there are silly contraptions of all types; I like them too. I like dinosaurs and epic journeys. Most of all I like stories and pictures that make me think, and make me smile

If you look at my website www.fredwinkowskiillustration.com, you’ll find many examples of my published and personal work. The three main subject matter categories there, “Moons, Machines and Martians” sum up my longtime obsessions.

I’ve written and illustrated many children’s books. I’ve been an art director at Readers Digest Children’s Books and I’ve photographed thousands of planes, trains, and automobiles for books I’ve produced for major publishers.
