I have been writing children's stories since, well, since I was a child! I love to write thought provoking stories that hopefully lead readers down the path and into the cozy garden of their imagination!
A good story should not only be entertaining, uplifting and engaging, but it should teach a lesson or just simply make the reader think about something from a new perspective! Inspiration for my stories comes from observations made as life moves all around me. A bird in the sky, my son's favorite toy, a family friend's battle with illness, or my love for the library!
Some of my favorite childhood memories are of the weekly visits to our local library with my Mom and siblings. Our library was in a teeny, tiny little space that had steps leading down to it from the sidewalk above. Looking back now, I think the library was in the basement of the building in which it was housed; frankly, I was so excited when we went to the library that I never really even noticed it was part of a bigger building! I remember pulling open the door and being greeted by the comforting and comfortable smell of stacks and stacks of old books, followed by a rush of cool, semi-subterranean air. Our quintessential librarian, with her glasses perched at the tip of her nose and her beautiful white hair in a bun, would always quietly smile and whisper "hello dear" as I passed her desk. It was always time to leave too soon, and my Mom would search through the narrow floor to ceiling rows until she found me, usually sitting cross-legged, hunched over with my nose buried deep in a couple of books with my precious stack of this week's borrowers piled high around me! Aaahhh, sweet childhood!
