Morning, John. What an exciting project. I have written many children's stories, poems and have a k-2 workbook with rhyming songs and worksheets. It has been used in 3 school districts. The purpose of the book involves teaching kids how to spell their number words. Each number is associated to a familiar nursery rhyme. Example: ZERO. Sung to the tune of The Ants Go Marching. The first and second line is: Z--E-R-O zero equals none, zip zilch. Z--E-R-O zero equals none, zip zilch.

Hi John, I'm very intersted in your search for rhyming stories. I've written 80+ books for the educational market (many for kindergarten age), including 10 poetry collections of mainly rhyming poems (plus one poetry collection for the trade market--Stampede! Poems to Celebrate the Wild Side of School [Clarion, 2009].

I've also written dozens of poems for assessment companies and book packagers on a work for hire basis. Many of these included writing with specific rhyme schemes, particular reading comprehension skills, assigned characters, etc.

Since these are for preschool kids, they tend to like stories with characters. Expressive poems without a sense of the speaker are hard for them. They like to hear about a character. That's the standard format at that age. Of course, the characters include animals, other kids, maybe a toy or tree. But an abstract speaker expressing feelings is not great for little kids. Another variation might be a first person version of a kid telling a story and about his/her feelings but be sure to stay in the language and mentality of a kid.

Kids don't like reading about adults. They're too self absorbed. They can't related. They don't care.

This is a work-for-hire project.

Item 1. 5 Stanza story. Four lines per stanza. Rhymed & rhythm. a b c b
The story/poem's theme is excitement over starting to study with particular attention to the specific desk items.
Each stanza will be on a separate screen. We will do the artwork and dramatic reading. We might give it a melody.
Crayon, pencil, scissor, paste, mouse (computer), computer screen, eraser, paper, book, tape
This will be one of the opening learning activities in the Time4Learning preschool curriculum.
The curriculum is hosted by Ed Mouse. Mentioning him or Time4Learning in the story would be good.
