I grew up in the tiny town of Frankenmuth, Michigan, where I once tried to eat my weight in bratwurst. I later moved to an even tinier town called Alden. I now live in Brooklyn, New York, which has more people than Frankenmuth and Alden combined.

I'm currently focusing on nonfiction picture books and chapter books, but am interested in a wide range of projects. When not writing, I work as an academic researcher in early childhood education where my areas of research include how children's media influences future academic growth, how preschoolers develop narrative storytelling skill, and how mobile learning technologies can affect cognitive growth.

Other interesting facts about me include: I once tried to cross the Sahara Desert overland. I have baked more than 100,000 muffins over the course of my lifetime. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan with a degree in psychology. I am currently in the Cognitive Studies in Education program at Columbia University. My favorite words are “waffle” and “clavicle". I'm happily married to the woman of my dreams.
