About Joyce
Peace is Rooted in our Nature! Award winning illustrator Joyce Mihran Turley, specializes in presenting images of nature with a painterly style and colorful palette. Published by the Grand Canyon Association, 'Animals Count in Grand Canyon National Park' is her latest book. It introduces young children to the engaging animals and scenery of the park. Her loon and osprey illustrations are featured in a series of books for children written by author Donna Love. Her current project is entitled 'Simply...Glacier National Park', a comprehensive illustrated guide to the park for older students. Joyce’s other books for children include an illustrated chapter book set in Medieval times, a picture book for pre-schoolers, and several projects in the educational market.
Having studied Mathematics along with fine art, Joyce retired from engineering over 20 years ago to spend time with her family and to pursue her interest in illustration. She has owned and operated Dixon Cove Design as the sole illustrator/designer, specializing in book illustration since 1997. Joyce enjoys working with small press and independent publishers in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond! Her aesthetic yet analytic interpretation of nature and other topics is reflected in much of her unique artwork that may be viewed at www.dixoncovedesign.com. Joyce has illustrated numerous books for adults on a wide variety of topics, including business, self-help, exercise, crafts, poetry, architecture, and medical.
Raised in upstate New York, Joyce has lived with her husband and three children in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies for almost 30 years. Her studio, located in their now empty nest, permits convenient observation of deer, coyotes, lizards, eagles, snakes, and hawks - just outside the picture windows!
