Third grade teacher Cynthia McGean writes YA and middle grade fiction, picture books, short stories and stage and audio scripts. Ms. McGean's work has been recognized by Writer's Digest, the Saturday Evening Post, the Raymond Carver Short Story Competition, the Kay Snow Awards, the Oregon Writer's Colony, the National Audio Theatre Festivals, the Emerging Forms Playwright Competition; the Ogle Awards and the Mark Time Awards. Her script HENRY AND RAMONA, the authorized adaptation of Beverly Cleary's HENRY HUGGINS books, has been produced throughout the United States and is excerpted in Houghton Mifflin's NATION'S CHOICE Reading Anthology. Her audio scripts have been licensed and aired throughout the country. Ms. McGean is a founder of the Portland-based Writers On-the-air Workshop, using audio theater as a means of honing the writing craft. She served as a guest presenter at the 2008 National Audio Theatre Festivals. Beyond writing and teaching, she has an extensive background in social service and in theater. Ms. McGean is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Amherst College with a Master's Degree from Willamette University.
