As a former teacher, Kristin Butcher understands the roller coaster world of young people. This is reflected in her novels, which hold the interest of even the most reluctant readers. Addicted to books from the time she knew what they were, Kristin is dedicated to sharing this love through her writing, classroom visits, and workshops.

A published author since 1997, Kristin’s works include thirteen juvenile and young adult books in English, as well as one in Dutch, one in Slovenian and Spanish, and one in German. She also has two biographies for primary readers. 2009 saw the release of three new books: a fun romp through ancient Egypt via an illustrated information book titled Pharaohs and Foot Soldiers from Annick Press, a thrilling YA mystery called Return to Bone Tree Hill (Thistledown Press), and the second book in the Zach & Zoe early chapter book series, called Zach & Zoe Bully and the Beagle (Lorimer). Kristin has three new books scheduled for release in 2010 too. Spring will see the release of a coming of age novel about a feisty twelve-year-old girl who is single-handedly trying to rid her school of bullies. Also scheduled for 2010 publication is The Order of Death and Other Secret Societies (Annick), a fact-fiction combo about interesting secret societies around the world and throughout time. Then in the fall, Orca will be publishing Cheat, the story of a major cheating scam in a high school. This is a hi-lo novel for reluctant readers -- part of the Currents series.

In addition to her books, Kristin has worked as a technical writer, compiling course profiles for universities and colleges in Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and the United States. She is also a regular reviewer for CM Magazine and the Canadian Book Review Annual. Her short story, "Waltzing Annie Home," was a runner-up in The Great Canadian Short Story competition in Storyteller Magazine (1999).
