It was inevitable I create books about plants and animals - well, the animals' part at least. By the time I was in high school, my list of pets included snakes, rats, mice, tarantulas, hermit crabs, a tree frog, octopus, alligator lizard and ground squirrel.

After getting my degree in Biology, I led tours and field trips at a botanic garden, taught elementary school science, did outreach on mosquito abatement, trained as an insect zoo presenter and wrote about wilderness for the US Forest Service.

Along with writing, I also illustrate natural science. My work has been in the Los Angeles Times, scientific journals, natural history magazines, field guides for adults and kids (see "My Published Works"), educational material and posters, tote bags, pins and notecards.

I live with my botanist husband in the mountain foothills near Los Angeles where bears, mule deer, turkey vultures, hawks and various other wild creatures pass through and over our yard.
