Hank Nuwer is the author of four books on hazing, and he is at work on a fifth. He is the author of one book on writing (How to Write Like an Expert about Anything) and
has a second due out in 2009. He has numerous other young adult books published.

He is also a professor and professional speaker on topics such as nonfiction writing, fiction techniques, using fiction strategies in nonfiction prose, and memoir writing. In particular he has enjoyed numerous speaking opportunities at the Midwest Writers Conference sponsored by Ball State University. He also consults
with newspapers as a writing coach.

He began speaking on hazing to collegiate athletes and Greeks in 1990, shortly after the publication of his groundbreaking book, Broken Pledges: The Deadly Rite of Hazing.

Hank has been a keynote speaker for the U.S. Department of Education and other distinguished gatherings. In 2006, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Buffalo State College for his writings. He is also adviser to Alpha Lambda Delta and a member of ALD, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Tau Rho, and Order of Omega.

A few of Hank’s other books include The Hazing Reader, The Legend of Jesse Owens, Steroids, Recruiting in Sports, Wrongs of Passage and High School Hazing.
He has given workshops for athletic departments and Greeks at about 100 well-known schools such as the University of Michigan, Dartmouth, Bucknell, Purdue, Indiana University, Syracuse and University of Illinois, Chicago campus.

He resides in the Midwest. As a magazine writer, he has been a participatory journalist, playing baseball for a Triple A team then-managed by Felipe Alou, throwing a discus with one of his personal heroes, Olympic champion Al Oerter (recently deceased), and riding a bull in a rodeo in October 2004.

He is best known for his serious journalism on hazing which has drawn wide attention from Sports Illustrated, the New York Times, the NCAA News and Newsweek.
He has been featured in four national documentaries on hazing for A & E and ESPN and other media. He currently appears in an E-Entertainment documentary on hazing and (upcoming) a Public Television documentary starring Robin Penn Wright as narrator, also in 2008.
