Award winning author, Donna Love, lives in Seeley Lake, Montana, where her husband, Tim, is the district ranger for the Seeley Lake Ranger District on the Lolo National Forest. Donna’s first books include Loons, Diving Birds of the North, published by Mountain Press in 2003, and Awesome Ospreys, Fishing Birds of the World also by Mountain Press in 2006( www.mountain-press.com) That same year, Awesome Ospreys became a Skipping Stones Press Honor Award winner (http://www.skippingstones.org/book2006.htm) for promoting ecological understanding and cooperation around the world. With a background in art education, Donna has substitute taught at the elementary and high school level for over ten years. She and her husband have three children.
Donna wrote and illustrated her first book “Horses of the World” in third grade at the age of eight. She still has that little book and often feels that should have been her first clue as to what her life’s occupation should be. After her marriage in 1977, she fulfilled her writing need by writing long entries in her children’s baby books. Throughout her husband’s career with the forest service, they moved to such interesting places such as North Dakota, Choteau, MT near Glacier National Park, Missoula, MT, and finally to Seeley Lake, Montana, where they make their home on a forest service compound on the lake. It was there, when her youngest son was three years old (now sixteen) that she found she had the ability to research and explain the complicated aspects of nature to children. She feels that the more you know about something, the better care you can give it. With so many things in the world to care about, Donna feels she’ll be busy writing for many years.
