I'm an Appalachian native living in the North Georgia Mountains and a veteran of the famous Foxfire Books.

The seed for my book, "It's Not My Mountain Anymore" was planted long ago as a young Foxfire student at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School.

Foxfire has been a chief recorder of our heritage for 45 years. There are over nine-million books in print-not to bad for a bunch of ragged younguns with hillbilly wrote all over us.

"It's Not My Mountain Anymore" is good for all ages. It's about a place both real and mythical, beautiful and devastated. Appalachia is filled with million-dollar houses atop summits and tiny shacks in deep hollers.

There is a fascination here that holds rich and poor, strong and weak captive, not with chains and fetters but by an almost touchable solace.

Appalachia is rich in resourses, but none richer than its humble people.

"Appalachia" means, "People of the Other Side." We remain separated from urban America by vast mountain ranges, unique folklore and damnable stereotypes.

Our hearts are knitted to The Appalachian Mountains with golden threads and silver memories that move me like a gentle breeze thru tender maple leaves, These mountains "have a'hold on us in fact we are married to the landscape.

The mountains I once knew are not the same. Inevitable changes clash harshly with memories of a passing era.

Mountain hospitality needs no formal invitation, so drag up a chair, cock up your feet and lets share mountain experiences and the many colorful people that shaped my life. Taste the harsh realities of change. It's a journey filled with appreciation, humor, love and loss to bring laughter and mositen eyes. Take what you want and spit out the bones.
