OK I admit it. I write stories about bush animals learning music.
The ideas came from teaching kids music, and when I told them fun stories about animals learning music, they thought this was so ‘cool!’
Music is such a rich experience and everyone should know as much about music as they can. But music theory can be complicated, and as a musician and teacher I have had some difficulty finding fun educational books for children that help provide a foundation for music development.
The best way to teach something difficult is to hide the information within a story and Music on the Bookshelf has been developed to meet this need with Storybooks for young children and Chapter books for primary age children.
The engaging stories encourage discussion about Orchestral Instruments, Rhythm and Music Notes, and why music makes us feel so good. Old fashioned story telling that sneaks a musical education in the background.
One of the things I find so fascinating about music is that there are concerts and music gatherings happening all over the world every night connecting people who love live music.
And in the words of Edward Elgar [1857 – 19340] – “My idea is that there is music in the air, music all around us, the world is full of it and you simply take as much as you require.”
