2. A Major Exhibit “Frame x Frame” Celebrates The NFB’s 75th Anniversary

Any reason to celebrate the National Film Board of Canada is a good one; the NFB is a model for government-funded arts organizations, both in the freedom granted its filmmakers and its long string of successes.

3. Stop-motion chalk on wall animation for Gaz Metro

Here’s a lovely little animated promo for Gaz Metro created with stop-motion chalk on a wall. The shoot took place over 4 nights and used over 1600 big pieces of chalk.

The animation-work is by my friends at Montreal’s La Moustache (previously).

Note: I’m skeptical of the environmental claims of any non-renewable resources, so I’m aware there’s an element of greenwashing here. But with Big Oil doing what’s it’s doing, I can see how natural gas seems like a friendlier alternative for some.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot. It helps if you understand French, but it’s still fun to see how it was put together.

4. splats

i haven't posted on here in a millennia & now i post twice in one week, heh. here's a few of my splat paintings which are also being featured right now at INDUSTTREES in Toronto until mid september. here's a bunch more over on my flickr page

basically i start with a splat of paint & then i interpret what i see, great to get juice of creativity flowing. some are more detailed than others, but i prefer the minimalist ones

5. milk - kid kong

finished this up a few months ago for Headgear animation in toronto. It's part of their on-going Milk dots campaign that play on Tv & (especially in this case) in the theatre. This set was special because they're playing before Ice Age 3, or at least in Canada they are. Isn't Ice age 3 in stereoscopic 3d you ask? well, so are these son, but you're gonna have go to the pictures to see those, otherwise enjoy the 2d versions.
