3. til my fountain pen runs dry

Inspector Endeavour Morse

This drawing is partly a gift for my, ridiculously young, friend's 21st birthday and partly a thank you for all of his help and hard work in setting up my exhibition earlier this year.

For some reason the scan of this portrait hasn't done it any favours. I found the same with the cat and dog portraits. The cross hatching looks quite flat. I don't know. Plus, i was way out of my comfort zone with this subject matter. But, for my first attempt at an 'orse I'm rather pleased, and so was his owner.

4. some owls just like to be alone: influence for IF

The prompt this week for Illustration Friday is, influence. In this picture, the little birdie is trying to influence his owl friend. He wants the owl to stay and party with the other birds. (There’s also a version of this picture in color.)

The little birdie isn’t very good at influencing anyone yet, or maybe some birds don’t like parties.

His owl friend flies off to be by himself again. Why do you think he didn’t stay?

5. The Flower Lovers Silhouette Prints

New prints in le shop.

A lady and her gentleman caller, decorated with scattered flowers inspired by one of my favorite things: 1930s feedsack prints.  Pretty rose-mauve color with cream flowers.  Available in 8″x10″ and 5″x7″.

This one keeps me company and reminds me of the spring to come!

6. i met a friend of spirit

James Alfred William George Galloway McAlistair ('Boston Jim')

Hailing from a small village in bonnie Scotland, James McAlistair, a determined and ambitious young political activist, set sail as a stowaway on a ship bound for the United States of America in 1773. On arriving at his destination he was discovered and thrown overboard, and found himself covered in tea.

After dragging himself ashore, and dusting himself down, McAlistair sneaked past the authorities and protesters and went into hiding. He lived on the streets of Boston for some weeks until he got back on his feet, found himself a place to stay and began work in the ship industry. He worked his way up from a tea boy to foreman. But McAlistair never forgot his roots, or the scenes and protests that met him on his arrival at the port. This, coupled with the way he saw other terriers being treated in the workplace, started him on his new calling.

'Boston Jim', as he was now known, travelled from town to town fighting for the rights of terriers throughout the sate of Massachusetts. He went on to become the founder of the Terriers Union that won the rights to a five day working week, two weeks holiday a year and a Bonio before bed time for terriers everywhere.

Original drawing for sale HERE.

8. Lemon BowTie

12Lemon-Bowtie

Today's post is a bit of a stroll into the past, as the bow tie above was a request based on a blue bow tie I had drawn a couple of years back, redrawn in lemon yellow.

I'm a Featured Seller Interview up at the Zazzle blog this week, which is wonderful and hugely motivating. Perfect timing, as I'm in the midst of sorting out my stores, and going through a much needed clean-up that will take me quite a while as I have to sort out tags, new products and redesigns on just about everything.

Here's one of my older text designs that I've now reproduced in different colours and on some of the new products:

Still a bit stuck on the ideas front so I'm hoping this clean-up will help kick-start the inspiration motor. Fingers crossed. Cheers!

9. Bicycle! Bicycle!

Thanks to this challenge I have the song going over and over in my head, "I want to ride my bicycle..."

Anyhow, here's my version, both as a simple and fancy silhouette.
