5. Watercolour: Tree of Blessings

I've been busy busy busy these last few days, and so am posting a little painting that I did in March and am finally able to show off properly (posted about it here). The image appeared in my mind one day and I dug the watercolours out, and was quite delighted with the results. It happens sometimes. I call it the Tree of Blessings now (instead of Tree of Hearts which was its 'working' title), and I may use it as the basis of one of my upcoming "I Choose" text designs ...

Wishing you a day full of simplicity and appreciation. Cheers.

9. Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Hi everybody! This is one of the images I used on my Christmas card this year. It was the outworking of an image I did for Illustration Friday. I can't tell you how many changes this went through to become this, but it was a lot!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Thanks for visiting our IFK site and blog!

10. Dog Days of Summer 1

Just a little guy I’m working on for something.

Though I grew up in a beach town, I’m not that much of a beach person. On a hot summer day, though, I can see it’s attraction!

16. Flat Nectarines, Alexander & A new art book!

32FlatPeaches

Two oddly shaped nectarines from the lady who has a wonderful organic fruit & vegetable stall every Wednesday and Saturday morning in the nearby village of Lauris. I love imperfectly shaped fruit, so when my mother (who has been an angel looking after me) brought these back I knew I just had to draw them.

It took me three days to draw them! Though that's probably due to the fact that I still tire easily ... and perhaps because, in some places, there are over twenty layers of colour in this drawing. I'm still not completely happy with it but knew that if I didn't finish it off I'd end up destroying it, so I finally stopped.

31Alexanderlime

A special request, for the name Alexander. I'm quite enjoying doing these names. I have another one waiting so I'd better get onto it.

33altaglich5

I'll have to blame my illness and recuperation for the fact that I'd forgotten to mention that this book that I'd ordered before getting so sick was waiting for me when I returned from hospital. I have been going through it with pleasure and pangs of hunger when I come across the too-yummy food drawings. Altaglich Folio: No Five contains beautifully delicate and detailed drawings by the extremely gifted Megan E. Bluhm Foldenauer whose artwork can be found here www.megalo-media.com or at her Flickr site. I've been a fan of hers since I discovered her drawings and am now determined to acquire books No 1 - 4 too! Cheers.

17. Murder Mystery: The Ingenue

16Ingenue

I really hadn't planned on turning her into such a flapper-type character but she insisted on it, and who am I to argue with a sweet innocent ingenue holding a bloody dagger in one hand? So here she is, the second in the Murder Mystery series. I'd watch your step if I were you ... :)

18. Candy Doodle

14candy
Blank mind today. And for the past few days too, really. Am in the middle of a job but what little imagination I do have decided to flee and is probably having a great time somewhere without me.

So, with blank page before me I cruised through old photos and found one that I'd taken of some candy as I'd told my niece Lara I'd draw some for her. Decided to pick up my coloured pencils and just doodle ... this is the result.

19. 6: Cupcake Hearts

06CupcakeHearts

When I returned home for a visit last year my nephew and one of my nieces were baking these glorious cupcakes and I took photos so that I could eventually draw them as they looked (and tasted!) so yummy. Well, I've finally managed to get one down onto paper though I really am not doing it justice. This one is for my nephew Kaelen!

Life has been hectic and I've been pretty blocked too. The final move into the new house has been a huge relief and I'm happy. Since then I've had visitors non-stop and am about to go overseas for two weeks again, after which life will I hope resume it's normal (?) peaceful routine and I can begin drawing on a more regular basis. Cheers!

20. Tupelo Rides the Rails

by Melissa Sweet Houghton Mifflin 2008 Covers are funny things. You're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but a lot of time goes into making those covers appealing so that you'll pick them up. Also, after the umpteen-millionth time you decide to ignore your gut feeling and give a book a chance despite its cover, and get burned, you decide that maybe you should trust the gut a little

21. Lets Make This Quick

Since I'm going to be gone for pretty much the whole of this week, I thought I would keep things short and sweet.

Here's a logo I recently did for someone.

There, I'm done.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't that sweet, but you can't argue the short part.

23. The Fraction Store -- a math poem

THE FRACTION STORE
by
Gregory K.

I bought a quarter pound of eighths.
I bought an ounce of thirds.
I filled a bag with seventeenths that I will feed the birds.

I found a ninth of thirty-eighths.
I grabbed a single half.
The sixths and fifths were one-fourth off, and that caused me to laugh.

As I prepared to pay my bill,
Well, that’s when things got strange.
Although they’re selling fractions there, they cannot figure change.
