First reviewed on 2/20/09, Tunnels (and the whole series) still stands out as a stellar action adventure story. The writing, plotting and world building is superb, inventive and fresh, while also feeling a bit classic at the same time. Yet another book that remains a favorite and has stuck with me for years. This was one of those books that I avoided when it first came out in January of 2008

When I started reviewing books, and inevitably reviewing books that were the first in a series, I decided not to post reviews of the subsequent book(s) in the series for a couple of reasons. Most of all, I figured that the reader of the first book in the series was, at the end of the book, pretty well equipped to decide whether or not to continue on with the series and thus did not require my

Looks like a winner. Too scary for an advanced-reading seven-year-old? (I stopped reading to avoid any spoilers....appreciated the head's up)
Yes!! Definitely too scary for a 7 year old (who has not grown up watching Star Wars and Indiana Jones and other questionable media like that.) The bad guys are really menacing and sinister, although run-ins with them are minimal.
