1. This (dramatic pause) is the TED Radio Hour on NPR

Morning coffee and the TED Radio Hour on NPR. The recent show is all about Joseph Campbell's theory on the hero's journey...and I am beyond thrilled and honored to be included in this episode. Not just because of the Star Wars theme or that George Takei is featured right after my segment (admittedly those are pinch-me items) ... but I had the opportunity to put the spotlight on mentors. And I had some amazing mentors—they changed my life.
For my educator friends, I hope that you can see your stories in the tales of my mentors.
May the Force be with you.

The entire episode (above) is amazing. Here is my segment:

2. two podcasts in which I discuss the business side of kid lit

Recently, I sat down in front of my computer and Skyped with two great podcasts. If you're interested in the business side of children's books and have some time to spare (and aren't sick of hearing me yap away), give them a listen!

I chatted with fellow graphic novelists Dave Roman and Jerzy Drozd on their fantastic kids' comics podcast, Kids' Comics Revolution!. Here, I delve into the business of visiting schools and libraries. My wife Gina and I put a lot of care into this programming, so it was cool to be able to share some of our practices.

Give that a listen here:

And I talked about life in art school and breaking into the kid lit market with Jeffery Yan over at RISD Voice. You can hop on over to that podcast by following this link. It's a great podcast that covers a wide variety of artistic disciplines.

5. Radio time!

I visited the WICN studios last week and chatted with friend and mentor Mark Lynch. Mark has been covering my work since day one! He's had me on his show multiple times throughout my career. And Mark also used to be my teacher at the Worcester Art Museum. So we go way back! (Look for the introduction he penned in my sketchbook, Monkey Boy to Lunch Lady, which will soon be available.)

Listen to us psychoanalyze pachyderms, discuss the creative process and my upcoming exhibit at the Worcester Art Museum.

7. Spare the Rock radio chat

I sat down with Bill Childs and his fabulous co-hosts/offspring for a radio chat on Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child. We covered new books, Meltdown '11 (&'12) and the Children's Choice Book Awards.

Bill does many amazing things. He hosts this radio show, he programs so many great events around town--most notably Meltdown. It has been beyond fun to work with him on making that event an annual one. But I like to sum Bill up by saying he's like the Dick Clark of hip, indie and GOOD kids' music.

You can listen to the radio interview here:
http://sparetherock.com/wordpress/?p=843

Speaking of Meltdown, PW had a nice mention of the event in their weekly kids' book newsletter. Check it out!

9. WICN radio interview

Mark Lynch has been covering my work on his show, Inquiry, since 2001. Mark is also that art teacher I had who told me to "forget everything I learned" upon learning that I read a "How to Draw Comics" book. In this year's interview, we cover the continuing Lunch Lady saga and I reveal info on my return to picture books in Fall 2011 and what's next for Punk Farm!

10. Meltdown! a radio chat about the authors

I stopped by the the studios of 93.9 The River to chat with Monte about the upcoming Meltdown!

The Meltdown goes down this Saturday from 10-4 at JFK Middle School in Florence, MA.

Stay tuned for more author interviews ahead of this Saturday's Meltdown!

**In the interview, when I say 5th book, I meant 4th book. The 4th LL book comes out next month, but I'm currently working on the art for the 5th book. Deadline dementia...
