1. A Leprechaun's Treat Bag

It's almost Saint Patrick's Day and my youngest is working on a trap
to catch the little green guy.  In the meantime, we are putting
together colorful treats to celebrate this festive day.
To make the lucky Leprechaun goodies,
fill cellophane bags with Twizzlers Rainbow Twists™
small marshmallows for clouds, Rolos for gold pots,
and colorful M&M™candies for rainbow dust.  Have fun and enjoy!

2. St. Patrick's Day Shenanigans

Are you all ready for a St. Patrick's Day celebration this weekend?

Try your luck at this Leprechaun puzzle.

Or if you'd like to discover how to write a Limerick, check out this information and write an example on a shamrock, no less.

And of course, there are always fun Irish stories to read. In A POT OF GOLD by Kathleen Krull, you'll be sure to find plenty of entertaining shenanigans.

Thanks to illustrator, Kit Grady, for this lovely fairy picture. She's the awesome illustrator for two of my Pet Grammar Parade books, DOGGIE DAY CAMP and HAMSTER HOLIDAYS.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

3. A Word (or Several) about the Wee Folk Known As Leprechauns

With St. Patrick's Day now upon us, the spotlight is firmly aimed at those mischievous wee folk: the leprechauns. Well, it would be, if they were easy to spot. And to have any hope of spotting them, you have to know where to start looking.

There are two schools of thought regarding the leprechauns' whereabouts: those who believe they're global inhabitants, and those who believe they can only be found on the Emerald Isle itself. (There is also the ever-present skeptical school of thought that refutes the leprechauns' existence entirely. Since I'm not One of Them, let's just ignore that school, shall we?)

Regardless of location, leprechauns are known to be wily, quick-witted, solitary, and none too pleasant. So why would you want to find a leprechaun? Well, legend has it that these Irish fairies are the self-appointed guardians of ancient treasure left behind by Viking raiders who marauded through Ireland eleven centuries ago. To find that well-hidden treasure, you first have to find a leprechaun. No easy feat, that, but rumor has it that you may be able to do it by listening for the sound of his cobbler's hammer.

If you manage to catch one, keep
your eyes glued to the little man. Courtesy and fairy law binds the leprechaun to tell the truth, but only as long as his captor adheres to courtesy, as well: looking the leprechaun straight in the eye, and never looking away. If his captor looks away, even for a fraction of a second, the leprechaun is freed from any obligation, and will vanish.

If you manage to maintain eye contact, there's another wrinkle: though the leprechaun is honor-bound to tell the truth, he has no restrictions against trickery whatsoever. You must have a sharp mind to be able to match wits with a leprechaun if you hope to even get a glimpse of his gold, let alone get your hands on it

HAPPY ST. PAT'S DAY!

Holly has been celebrating, as you can see. Hope you have a great day.

Highlights Magazine has some great St. Pat's Day fun. Here is a link to their Hidden Picture.  And this link will help you create and play the HAT O' GOLD Game.

Don't forget to try writing your own Limerick. You'll probably want to try it on the Shamrock at Limerick Fun.  Or maybe the Leprechaun Puzzle--all of those treats are right here on my website.

May the luck o' the Irish be with you!

5. The "Laura and the Leprechauns" book trailer has officially been released!

The day has finally arrived—my book trailer is finished and ready to be viewed! I have posted it on my website at www.chrysalispress.com in the Media Room under “Book Trailer.” It is also posted on Reader Views Kids website at http://readerviewskids.com/reviews_previews.html. I will also post it on youtube.com (you will have to search for it under “Laura and the Leprechauns”) and on my myspace page which is myspace.com/ambertkingston. The part I played in its creative process was lots of fun but it was so difficult to wait for the more difficult and exciting parts like animation and sound to be completed. Now I see that my patience paid off. I am very happy with it and I hope that you will be too. Happy viewing!

Sincerely,

Amber

8. Project: Patrick's Day

I finished this last summer (june 06) but was asked to keep it under my hat until now.

The Brief was to produce a poster celebrating St. Patrick's Day for Murphy's.
As it was for the export market I was able to exploit all things Oirish; leprechauns, shamrocks, Irish dancing, Irish music and the craic. The posters would be put up in bars (Irish one's no doubt) across the world.

I produced an initial 3 rough options
option [A]
option [B]
option [C]

A final rough was drawn up based on option [C. This included the clients comments and some refinements.

After this was signed off I started the final artwork.

Artwork was produced in photoshop, a 350mb file with over 100 layers at one point.

I've just finished a Halloween Poster but it will be November before I can stick it up here.
