Han Alister thought he had already lost everyone he loved. But when he finds his friend Rebecca Morley near death in the Spirit Mountains, Han knows that nothing matters more than saving her. The costs of his efforts are steep, but nothing can prepare him for what he soon discovers: the beautiful, mysterious girl he knew as Rebecca is none other than Raisa ana’Marianna, heir to the Queendom of the Fells. Han is hurt and betrayed. He knows he has no future with a blueblood. And, as far as he’s concerned, the princess’s family killed his own mother and sister. But if Han is to fulfill his end of an old bargain, he must do everything in his power to see Raisa crowned queen.
Meanwhile, some people will stop at nothing to prevent Raisa from ascending. With each attempt on her life, she wonders how long it will be before her enemies succeed. Her heart tells her that the thief-turned-wizard Han Alister can be trusted. She wants to believe it—he’s saved her life more than once. But with danger coming at her from every direction, Raisa can only rely on her wits and her iron-hard will to survive—and even that might not be enough.
The Gray Wolf Throne is an epic tale of fierce loyalty, unbearable sacrifice, and the heartless hand of fate.
Review by Jess
THE GRAY WOLF THRONE, by Cinda Williams Chima is the third installment of the Seven Realms series and this is best one yet! This installment is full of non-stop action and scheming! It's a fast pace read and intense!
I was amazed by Chima's latest novel. The characters seem to get more and more complex and I feel like I can really connect with all of the characters and understand their point of view. I am in love with Han! Chima has done such a wonderful job developing him as a character and his role in Princess Raisa's life. Them together make me swoon and as a reader, knowing both their secrets that they keep from each other I want so badly for everything to be revealed.
It was really nice to see such a change in the Princess Raisa and see her really grow into her royal role. I found that even through all the tough times Raisa experienced in this novel she was a strong princess and I think readers will find they can look up to her.
I was worried that the beginning of this novel would be a slow start, but it picked up right away and I couldn't put it down, I actually had dreams about the characters. I am hooked and loving it.

Our bonus winner is Anonymeet, who will get a copy of Jennifer Brown's BITTER END.
Ladies, please email me your smail addresses so I can get these out!
And the TWO books up for grabs today are Cinda's THE GRAY WOLF THORNE and Kelly Keaton's DARKNESS BECOMES HER. (U.S. and Canadian residents only). To win, just comment on this post. I'll pick the random winners tonight and announce them in the morning. Good luck, everyone!
What routines do you find helpful for you to stay actively writing?
Well, looming deadlines and the prospect of having to give back an advance helps keep me on track!
I find the “wandering in the wilderness” stage of a first draft the most difficult. Almost anything seems more appealing than staring at the blank screen. “Maybe I should go out and see if there are any Japanese beetles on the roses,” I say. Or “Maybe I should check Amazon to see what my rank is.”
I find that moving off-site helps. There’s something about a new location that says, “Time to work.” Plus it removes me from the temptations around home. I’m not talking about a full-blown writing retreat (though I have done that.) I often walk down to a café and write there. Or go to the library.
I limit time online. The best system for me is to write all morning, and then do online business in the afternoon. If I get on in the morning, I’ll suddenly realize that three hours have passed and I haven’t written a word. It’s important to figure out what your best writing time is, and spend it writing, not self-Googling or watching Dancing with the Stars.
Setting word-count goals helps. When writing a first draft, I’ll set goals for an entire month. I’ll call it March Novel Madness, or Marathon in May. I keep a calendar and keep writing til I get my thousand words or 1500 words or whatever. That has the dual benefit o Add a Comment

This novel marks the first giant step in a momentous fantasy journey orchestrated by Cinda Williams Chima, the author of the popular Warrior Heir series. Its two chief protagonists are ex-thief Han Alister, an impoverished commoner, and Raisa ana'Marianna, the headstrong Princess Heir of the Fells. The Demon King brings them together, creating part of a volatile mix of action, magic, and danger. Empathetic characters; wizardly attacks.
Review by Jess
THE DEMON KING, by Cinda Williams Chima is an epic fantasy adventure that will sweep you off your feet in seconds. The action is ever present and the plot strong the entire time. This is a book you will sit down and read and not put it down until your finished.
Having already read Chima's Heir series I was incredibly excited to read a new series by her. I was not disappointed. The writing is a masterpiece! Chima was able to switch back and forth between the two main characters P.O.V. so flawlessly, I usually find it somewhat confusing when authors switch, but everything fits together so seamlessly.
Raisa is one of my favorite kind of characters. She is head strong and knows what she does and does not want, and what she has to do in order to be a good leader. Even as some things begin to crumble around her she figures out what she must do. I love strong lead characters! Raisa definitely made it on to my list of favorite characters.
This book really kept my interest the entire time and left me wanting more and more. This book definitely has made my top ten list, and I can not wait for the rest of the series!
Excellent advice - especially about keeping it professional online. I am amazed at what people are willing to Tweet!
Loved your advice on not getting stuck on the latest book trends...oh and everything else you said. =)

I have heard so much about these books. I really want to try them out. Thanks for the interview :)
I agree - great advice - the writing should come first. It's easy to get caught up in all the other stuff :)
Oh I love the seven realms series. That is great! I would love to read it.
I liked the advice and the Q and A on the post. I have to say that both of these book sound great, I love the seven realms series, it has been really great to share with the kids. Thank you for the opportunity.
It's good to hear that you have a way to keep writing instead of getting distracted!
I am addicted to this series, and can't imagine how much work is put into it. What amazes me is your self control. I am too easily distracted and find that self imposed rules don't often work. I hope you start a new trend, because I love your fantasies!

What an excellent post!! Thank you for all the aspects I never would have given much thought to, otherwise ... like the *social pressure* thing. Too true, in this day and age.
This series is on my list, and might I add the cover art is also FAN-tastic :D
"I limit time online."
Awesome advice!
Great interview. I was lucky enough to meet Cinda at the Michigan SCBWI conference last year. She gave an excellent talk on plot. I'm still at the stage of writing and working and falling asleep sitting up.
I'm so hoping I win Cinda's book. I LOVE all her books.
Great post! I like the idea of setting goals for the entire month for the first draft. Thanks for having this giveaway! :)
I've read the first book of this series. I've checked out the second one from the lbirary, but haven't had the time to read it!

can't wait to read these books!
All this is great advice! Nice to hear some details about life on the other side of the publishing fence--what published writers do all day. ;o) You're certainly right about belonging to a critique group and learning to have deadlines. People are expecting your writing!
