1. Mini outdoor pastels

I've been making a regular exercise of getting out and doing quick small pastel studies. Hopefully I can keep this going. The biggest challenge is often finding a spot to paint. There's a lot to think about - how's the light, the shadows, am I being too conspicuous, is there a shady spot to sit, etc. But it's also kind of fun driving around looking for inspiration. If you enjoyed looking at these, I'll be posting more regularly over at my facebook page, here.

2. Northeast Ohio Kids Art: 3-D Food Workshop

We had another successful northeast ohio kids art class, this time making 3-D food drawings! We used the medium of pastel to create our own interpretations of artist Wayne Thiebaud’s pop art paintings.

This class incorporated the use of 1 and 2 point perspective drawing! We also practiced adding a light and shadow side to objects. The results were wonderful!

We created pop art milkshakes,

And came up with our own pop-culture object. Shown below is a smart phone. Great idea, Dexter!

Which charity the donation goes to, will depend on the item purchased and I will love you forever from the bottom of my little black heart. ...and even if you don't purchase anything from me, you can go to their site and make a donation! They deserve a chance too!

9. my newest illustration

This illustration started out as an IF for the word swept…I decided to finish it with an image that’s been in my head for a while.
I used PanPastel on mostly the whole illustration, except for the finest details.  I painted on sennelier white drawing paper with grain.

12. Been awhile…

since I posted.  Yesterday I went back to a painting I started for an Illustration Friday prompt.  I started this using pastelbord,

but this particular board had a little more teeth then I am used to.  I have been working on it with layers & different tools.  An enlargement of a section shows it is very rough, as you can see.

I will be working on this today & hope to finish it soon. ( I have another sketch in the works…)

15. just finished…

this is my finished painting…it will be in the ALNC member exhibit.

I used mainly panpastels…a soft pastel compressed in a small pan (just like an eyeshadow). I found them to be very nice to work with!

16. Some Sketches From This Week

Just a few sketchbook pages from this past week. I got int the habit of having it lay open on a nearby table and I sketch something sometimes when I'd walk by. I've also started playing with some new materials, as mentioned last post.

Another quick pastel sketch. I love how thick my sketchbook gets when I use heavy media like this.

19. Big Cheap Pastel Drawing

Sometimes it's fun to just grab whatever's at hand and make a drawing. In this case I laid my hands on what are either cheap pastels or face paints and sketched this out to inaugurate my new studio.

25. SFG: Six

This is me in 1986. I was 6 years old.

I was part nerd, part tomboy but that didn’t stop my mother from putting barretts in my hair. I was a little girl who liked to play in the dirt and ride my bike but the world was just a big pastel ball of sick.

God, I’m glad the 80s are over.
