Greece is not alone in suffering from budget cuts arising from the era of austerity. In the UK, local councils, libraries, museums – all public services have been cut. Criminal Justice has not escaped this cost-cutting. The consequence has been fewer police officers on the streets, less money for legal aid lawyers, and closures of Magistrates courts.
The post Austerity and the prison appeared first on OUPblog.
The ekeko is a Peruvian symbol/god of good fortune and prosperity. This lovely metal one was given to be by my mother while I was in Peru last month ... apparently the ekeko has to be received as a gift in order for it to cast its benevolent light upon your life. The original ones were made of clay and apart from the goods that they carry (this contemporary one even has a giant visa card!) they had a hole in their mouths into which you were meant to place a cigarette to make it happy. I assume that no longer applies!
Above was a specially designed for a friend who is turning fifty-five very soon. And below is another special request for
André. Off to spring-clean now. Cheers!

This is a painting that was commissioned by a friend when she was trying to sell her house just before the real estate market took a dive. She's a firm believer in Feng Shui, and I'm here to tell you it seems to work magic for her.
I finished this painting about fifteen minutes before the open house was to start. We hung it where her Feng Shui master told her too, and I'll be darned if she didn't get a full price offer on the house that day!
Cranes stand for prosperity in Chinese beliefs, and in Feng Shui they have to be divisible by nine. (I had to quickly add 2 more cranes!)
Happy Animal Wednesday, my friends! Here's to prosperity for us all!

The blog and the painting are very nice and attractive.
Feng Shui and family harmony starts with how these rooms are decorated and making excellent use of color and the elements to harmonize these spaces for the best effect and positive flow of chi.
Oh GREAT!!!! That it worked also!
The painting is just gorgeous. I would buy the house in which it was in in a instant........ if the painting was to stay.

Let me think for a moment - (½ - 6 = 12² ± 180° X 17) ... never mind!
How's it going, girl? How do I get in on the Animal Wednesday?
Beeeyoootiful! I don't know much about feng shui, but I can see there is a whole lot of harmonizing chi going on in that painting. Happy, once again belated, Animal Wednesday!
What a great painting, and a great story!!! COOL!
That is a gorgeous painting! What a wonderful friend you are to have done this. So...did you get a commission? :)
I adore the perspective of this painting. And the cranes make it all come alive! Thanks for sharing the Feng Shui tidbit.
Have a splendid weekend!
I love this! We were at a house in the vineyard that had not-good energy flow...and I kept thinking that a good painting was needed. You hit the nail right on the head!
This is just beautiful - what a wonderful, talented artist you are!
this is fascinating; both the image and the story behind it. I really need to read up on this further.
