Rumors have been buzzing that actors Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak plan to collaborate on a new book together. According to Jezebel, they will earn $7.5 million for this project.
Kaling and Novak (pictured, via) both starred in the American version of The Office T.V. show, but off-camera these two have been involved with one another in a complicated romance. Their off-and-on relationship will be the focus of the project. Reportedly, this couple will make a formal announcement about the book during a panel at BookCon 2015.
Here’s more from the New York Daily News: “Kaling soon may have fodder for another book after this is all over. While the collaboration with Novak is to be published by a yet-to-be-named Random House imprint, her essay collection is being put out Sept. 29 by Crown Books — a direct competitor. There’s a rumor among publishing insiders that Random House could be using Kaling and Novak’s book to launch a new imprint that could appeal to authors with sensibilities and followings similar to those of the two ‘Office’ stars.” (via Vulture.com)

We’ve collected the books debuting on Indiebound’s Indie Bestseller List for the week ending October 05, 2014–a sneak peek at the books everybody will be talking about next month.
(Debuted at #2 in Hardcover Nonfiction) Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham: “Dunham illuminates the experiences that are part of making one’s way in the world: falling in love, feeling alone, being ten pounds overweight despite eating only health food, having to prove yourself in a room full of men twice your age, finding true love, and most of all, having the guts to believe that your story is one that deserves to be told.” (September 2014)

In this bunny eat bunny world, we’ve seen celebrity authors come and go. Mostly come, in droves, especially after Harry Potter put a spotlight on the profit potential of the children’s book biz. Ca-ching.
Everybody’s making millions!
For many of us non-celebrity authors and illustrators, dressed in our dreary clothes, clutching our cold coffee cups, it’s hard not to be a little, urm, disgusted at times. The crappy book by the “star” that gets a ridiculous amount of undeserved attention.
But that’s life, so we deal with it, and try to keep our petty thoughts to ourselves.
However, I hasten to add: not all celebrity books suck. Jamie Lee Curtis wrote some good ones, as I recall. Fred Gwynne — Herman Munster! — made a sincere effort to create singular children’s books. By that I mean, my sense is that they actually worked on the books, actually respected the idea of a children’s book, and got into it for the “right reasons,” however we might differ in defining what those reasons are. It wasn’t just a way to cash in on something.
Anyway, this fresh, new effort by B.J. Novak is brilliant. Yes, absolutely, he came up with a clever idea. A great idea. But then he pulled it off over the course of an entire book. That’s not at all easy. And it’s beautifully published, too. Great job, all around.
Kids today, they sure do love the meta.
Enjoy this book with no pictures, folks. Go ahead, stomp on that link, surrender to the video. It makes me wish that I had a room full of kids to read this one too.

A book without pictures? Boring! Except... "Here is how books work. Everything the words say, the person reading the book has to say." With kooky irreverence and crazy words, The Book with No Pictures surprises as it creates a zany — and downright delightful — shared experience.
