I can finally tell everyone about something I've been working on for the past few months. I'm now contributing as an illustrator for the brand new HP Giving Cards project. It's been quite exciting and they're coming up with some brilliant ideas. For starters, they've just launched an online site where you can pick from a variety of greeting/gift cards to print out and send to friends and family. Here's what they have to say about it:
Introducing Giving Cards – the card that’s also a gift. Our new Giving Card is a great way to customize a gift for any special occasion. It’s a greeting card and a gift card in one, and you can make it on your own home printer. Just pick from hundreds of FREE designs, select a store and amount, personalize, and print. Giving the perfect gift has never been easier.
I have to add that there's a such large variety of gorgeous card designs to pick from that I'm feeling quite honoured and proud to be a part of their great team of artists and illustrators. There will be more exciting news in the next few months, but meanwhile pop over to have a look and let me know what you think, and whether you can spot my cards :) Here's the link to it:

Freelance writing jobs abound for talented writers who are willing to seek them out on the Internet. Writers can sell their talent on the Web instead of just sitting back and waiting for book sales! Some freelance writers use job market websites to earn additional income. However, these websites typically use a bidding system for writing projects, so the pay is typically low because of intense competition between writers. Let's take a look at some good Internet-based, part-time freelance writing job arenas:
Women's Magazines with an Internet Presence
One handy website, Freelance Writing, provides a list of women's magazines that accept submissions from freelancers. The list includes a short description of each magazine, including their websites, as well as submission guidelines.
Copywriting
The success of many online businesses depends on creative advertising. Because of this, a talented copywriter can make a decent income. Companies seek talented writers to develop scripts for advertisements, promotional materials, landing pages, and public relations materials. They are also called upon to write short, informative articles. Some Internet copywriters develop original scripts for audio or video advertising campaigns.
Greeting Cards
Some greeting card companies accept submissions from freelancers. Blue Mountain Arts, for example, pays freelancers as much as $300 for a short verse. The greeting cards sector is a good niche for poets and for writers with good senses of humor. Freelancers may improve their chances by offering ideas for a specific audience, such as novelty cards for kids.
Here are links to the submissions guidelines for some of the greeting card companies that accept submissions from freelancers:
- Blue Mountain Arts
- Submit Funny Stuff
- JQ Greetings
- Oatmeal Studios (The web page has a Writer's Guidelines Tab)
Electronic Newsletters
A variety of companies and organizations send newsletters via email. Basically, these jobs involve writing articles, providing relevant information about the organization or it's industry, and perhaps conducting interviews. Depending on factors such as the importance and size of the organization as well as the frequency of the newsletter, you can make anywhere from $1,500 to $6,000 per newsletter.
Blogging
Freelance writers can blog part-time to add to their income. To help make it easier to find these opportunities, there are numerous websites that post blogging jobs. Visit Problogger's jobs web page and the Freelance Writing Jobs Network. Both of these useful websites post a wide variety of blogging jobs.
Some blog-based websites hire bloggers onto their staffs. b5media, based in Toronto, operates a wide variety of blogs. Their bloggers get paid from $100 to $250 per month based on the quality of their blog posts as well as their experience. However, they also can get bon

This week's Illustration Friday topic is "Toy", which is perfect because I just finished this piece which I am using on various greeting cards! The teddy bear (in my opinion) has got to be the most popular toy in the world. Just about every kid has had one. How many did/do you have? I've had a few thousand. Well, it sure felt that way when there was no room left for me on my bed!

Here are some more wonderful card designs created by the talented Kerry Urbatch. She wrote the most touching post about some of my new licensed stamp designs that I created for the Angel Company.
I am so thrilled that my illustrations are being enjoyed and used by these wonderfully talented and creative folks. It is an honor to have my stamp designs being used in such wonderful ways. This is exactly why artists do what they do...to hopefully evoke some emotion with their art and to bring joy somehow.
The lovely top card was featured in the Angel Company catalog but I also love the black and white card with it's clean, classic design! Thanks Kerry, for making my Brandy and Emma look so good! :)

I’ve been slowly doing some office inventory, such as going through boxes and making some order out of my mayhem. I had a box of greeting cards I’ve done over the years, just begging for some order. So I made piles on the living room floor to match up cards and envelopes, etc. (Pic below. I erased the floor). I count 46 here but some are missing. I had no idea there were that many. How about that! Most are commissioned and not my concepts, but a few are. I’m grateful to my clients for the opportunity to make cards of different types. Thanks, guys!

It's hard to believe that - after Thanksgiving next week - the holiday shopping season is upon us! Where does the time go?! Seems like only yesterday it was Valentine's Day. I wanted to do a quick post to show off a few of my featured holiday greeting card designs above. I've spent hundreds of hours designing new greeting cards this year, with over 6,000 cards currently in my shop & more added regularly! These cards print GREAT and the best part is they're printed here in the USA!
Also pictured (on the light table I can't live without) are some cards from my most recent order. I like to have plenty of cards on hand - they not only make great portfolio pieces, but you really never know when you'll need one! So don't mail out a generic card (on several occasions I've received the same store-bought card from different people!), if you're looking for a unique card this holiday season, be sure to drop by my store and check out my selection! =)
