My warm-up drawing for the day turned into a cookbook cover. I consider it a rough, mock-up. I could tweak, change and alter this thing forever, if I let myself.
…And now I think I need my own cookie fix… : )

A weekend or two ago, I visited my first Sugar Shack (or cabane a sucre). I always heard about this Quebecois tradition, but never quite managed to make the time to experience it for myself. So I and a few friends (and half of Montreal, it seemed! It was crowded.) went to Sucrerie de la Montagne in Regaud, Quebec on a bright, coolish, spring Sunday afternoon. What was the experience like? Photos and brief commentary below.

Just kidding. : ) A fun time was had by all. I cut loose and played the wooden spoons. A lot. Must have been the maple wine (was it maple…? Everything was MAPLE!).

Are you a fan girl of a certain author? I totally am. I get almost giddy when I spy a new Kate Brian/Kieran Scott/Emma Harrison book on the racks. For those of you who live in a cave and only read this blog, these books are all written by one woman. I know, right? She's like Meg prolific. Even worse, she's kind of gorgeous. She's one of those chicks who looks good in sweats and a ponytail going grocery shopping. But wait, don't start hating on her quite yet. Why not you ask?
The Best Girl is the story of Farrah Jane Morris. She is forced to attend her brothers wedding at an elite resort in Colorado. Her brother is marrying a pretentious rich girl, who turns out to be not-so-pretentious after all. For two whole weeks Farrah/Jane has to fly under her mother's radar (who is constantly trying to turn her into someone she isn't), keep up the act of being a nanny so the boy she's crushing on doesn't think she is a pampered snob, try to find her femininity, and deal with the fact that she even though she's adding a new member to her family she still feels like she is losing her brother.
That is one cool cake. Is one ‘cup of Guiness’ just a mug? I would stick a whole pint in, although the guests might have felt subjected to it rather than treated

Sam: Well, let’s see…Out of a 12 oz bottle, 8 oz (1 cup) went into the cake. the remaining 4 oz I sipped on as I pulled the cake together. Heh. But as inclined one might be want to saturate the cake batter with a lot of beer, well, you know it goes in baking, ratios of flour to butter to sugar to liquid. You might just end up with a big Guinness pancake or soup! Nice thought, though!
there you go again… pumping up the numbers on your blog with recipes! You will have to buy more bandwith now…. Ha!

Guinness Stout, Ireland’s great gift to Western Civilization, is quite a mouthful whether by glass or on the plate. The roasted grains of GS and a dark chocolate cake would be a formidable combo.- I assume you drink a glass with the cake?
