1. Teresa Wagner: Conversations with whales vs. one way psychic readings or archetypes

Our last guest post-er for Animal Communication Month is Teresa Wagner, one of my animal communication mentors, who is passionate about being a voice for the whales and wants to share this very important lesson.

teresa

Whales seem to speak a form of consciousness we are beginning to re-explore in our own inner natures. They help us chart our interior wilderness. We can hear whales singing. If we pay attention and let them live, perhaps we will hear them speak, in their own accents, their own language. It would be an extravagant reward to experience, by empathy, a different band of reality. ~ Joan McIntyre, Mind in the Waters

The “extravagant reward” is available to us all! Thanks to the pioneering efforts of Penelope Smith and those who followed her, many, many humans have remembered their natural telepathic abilities to speak with animals. I have been talking with whales for over twenty five years–since 1988. Sometimes those conversations are about what they want to share with me regarding my own personal growth, sometimes to serve as a translator for people who want assistance in hearing the guidance whales want to offer them, sometimes to help whales in distress, and sometimes to bring messages from the whales to groups of people, and sometimes just to chat about everyday things.

Most of us who love animals seem to have certain species with whom we connect much more deeply than others—animals who call to our souls in ways that no others can. This is how it is for me with the whales. They are my ancestral family and my spiritual guides. I love them beyond measure. Whether we refer to the animals with whom we have such profound relationships as our power animals, totem animals, spirit guides, teachers, healers or family is not what is important. What does seem to be important is our openness and willingness to enthusiastically yet humbly discern their important messages for us, and to apply that learning into the daily fabric of our lives.

From the diligent work of scientists we learn about the biology of whales. From the ongoing work of researchers of cetacean behavior we learn the patterns of whale populations, distribution, migration and what they do in all of the earth’s oceans. The continually growing body of work regarding the biology and behavior of whales helps us better understand them and often helps to protect them. And through the passionate efforts of activists, laws are created and changed and cultures are influenced to further protect whales. Research, conservation, and activism are all needed to save the whales.

It is only through direct communication with the whales, however, through the universal language of telepathy, that we can move beyond making assumptions about why whales do what they do, to learn what they think, what they feel, their perceptions of humans, and to learn the very stories of their lives, and to offer them the energy of healing for specific needs.

Telepathy is the universal language of the soul—used by all species and between species. It is the natural extension of intuition, an ability available to each of us, involving the sending or receiving of feelings, images words or energy over distance, transcending time and space. There is no difference inside of us. All beings speak the same language of the soul.

If we love whales and want to honor and effectively communicate with them, we must relate to them not only via their physical bodies and observable behavior, but also beyond biology and behavior–to acknowledge and communicate with them at the level of their souls. When we speak with the souls of whales with love, compassion, empathy and respect–through the portal of our hearts, true communication becomes possible. When we go beyond intellectual gathering and analysis of data, and when we go deeper than sentimentality, communication becomes sacred. Telepathy allows a two way exchange that is intimate and often deeply rewarding for both whales and humans. Having conversations with whales is quite different from observing whales and then making assumptions about the behavior observed.

Clearly, two way communication takes us beyond assumptions. Observing behavior does not tell us everything about an animal or person, and the assumptions we make without checking in with those involved can be completely wrong.

When we want to communicate with whales (or any animals), it is much more meaningful and accurate if we engage in a dynamic, two-way conversation rather than doing a one-way psychic reading, or apply the stereotypes of archetypes to individual whales. A one-way reading of a soul’s energy can be accurate, but a back and forth conversation always reveals so much more than a one way reading, which is only a static picture of another’s energy. (Read more in an article: The Difference Between a Conversation and a Psychic Reading.)

When I talk with the whales, I prefer the phrase “having a conversation with” to the terms channeling, medium, or psychic reading. There is nothing wrong with those terms. Psychic actually means “of the soul.” However, contemporary television shows and movies have so over-sensationalized psychic work, reducing it at times to sound bite entertainment (usually with a focus on proof of whether it’s real, not whether it’s helping anyone) and perpetuating the myth that people in those roles have some sort of exclusive, exotic, strange or melodramatic ability. Melodrama, ego and entertainment serve no beneficial purpose in sacred conversations with animals. What does serve these conversations is the energy of love, respect, compassion, empathy, humility and the important ethical practice of clearing oneself of filters before conversations.

When we are having conversations with animals, we’re filtering when we hear messages, see things or feel energy through the lens of our personal beliefs or perspectives–especially if we communicate what we hear, see or believe as if it is a universal truth or fact rather than our opinion. This is also called projection. A more accurate way to telepathically communicate with animals is to do so with empathy. Empathy is our attempt to understand an animal through the lens of their perspective, rather than impose ours onto them. When we mistake our own personal perspective as a message from an animal, or our opinions as fact and applicable to everyone, we are filtering and or projecting.

If we truly want to know what individual whales may be thinking, what is on their minds and in their hearts and what they want to say to us, then we must commit to listening without filters.

Filtering can come from our personal values, desires or from our beliefs in certain dogmas or archetypes, and can be used consciously or unconsciously. When we talk with animals, it is important to let go of all preconceived ideas. stereotypes and archetypes of species, breed, gender and to simply connect with an individual animal, and listen. If we assume that an animal of a particular species, such as a whale, will tell us information of a particular sort, then that is what we will hear. We will perceive through this filter, rather than sensing whatever it is a particular animal really may want to say to us. If we truly want to know what individual whales may be thinking, what is on their minds and in their hearts and what they want to say to us, then we must commit to listening without filters. During the period of time that we are listening to them we must put aside our own values, beliefs and desires so we can truly hear them, not what we might wish they would say or want. Some of us refer to this as a process of energetic clearing, done before telepathic conversation. (Click here to learn about how filtering impacted my conversation with Keiko (the whale who starred in Free Willy and lived most of his life in captivity).   http://www.swimandcommunicatewithwhales.com/a-sampling-of-messages-from-whales#captive )

Letting go of archetypal information about whales while communicating with them is an important step in this energetic clearing of ourselves of filters. Telepathy involves having a conversation with animals. It is live and dynamic. Archetypes offer us information about animals. It is static information which may have absolutely nothing to do with the animal with whom we are talking. Telepathy allows us to communicate with animals–with individual animals about specific information. Telepathic animal communication involves having a conversation with animals–accessing the actual thoughts.

Archetypes are generalized opinions about animals, usually references about an entire species. They are based on assumptions about animals, not conversations with animals. A common archetypal assumption about animals is that all individuals in a species group share the same spiritual qualities or abilities, which they hold for the purpose of serving humans. Furthermore, it’s often described that these qualities can be absorbed by humans, especially if they tap into their “power animal.”

Assigning archetypal meanings of animals’ purpose and existence on earth to every animal in a group is terribly limiting, if not also condescending and erroneous, to the individuals in each species. We can’t possibly know the life purpose of an animal, the meaning of encountering a particular animal, how the animals feels about us, etc. unless we ask. Internalizing stereotyped information about whales can skew–filter–what we think we hear from them, or perhaps worse, make us think there is no need for conversation since someone already wrote down in a book “what whale energy means.” Can you imagine someone from Mars writing a book called “what human female energy means”–as if all female humans are alike?

An example of this occurred on one of my whale swim trips when one of the women in the group asked for my help in clarifying the energy and messages she was receiving from a whale. She said that though she very much enjoyed connecting with this whale, she was quite surprised that he was very “puppy-like, light and playful, not at all serious.” She said she expected the whales to feel more like the Dali Lama than a puppy, because she read in various places that “whales are the keepers of the earth’s history and wisdom.” She was shocked when she connected to this whale, thinking she had somehow connected to the wrong animal, perhaps a dog back on land, or a dolphin because she had read that they are all about “joy and play.” She thought that all whales were wise healers of the earth. When I checked in with this whale, he clearly wanted to talk with her about having fun and playing, but nothing else (and this was not a calf or especially young whale). He had no special wisdom to offer about the healing of the universe or records of the earth’s history, just how much fun he was having hanging out with us humans, and that he hoped this woman was having fun being amongst the whales. As we talked more about it, the person reflected on this and realized she was not having enough fun in her own life and wanted to lighten up. She concluded that she was drawn to connect with this whale to feel inspired by the energy of playfulness and fun available to her in her daily life. She let go of the idea of a “one size fits all archetypes.”

Think what she would have missed had she merely continued to read archetypal information about “what whale energy means.” She probably would have discounted her connection with this whale and continued to expect only “we hold the earths’ wisdom and we’re here to heal the earth and everyone on it” type energy from all the whales. I encouraged her to feel good about the fact that though she had been exposed to a stereotyped belief about whales, when she telepathically connected with this whale, she didn’t let it stop her from receiving his playful energy accurately! Though she was initially confused about the disparity between what she received from the whale and the archetypes she had come to believe, she did take in information contrary to the stereotypes she had read. She didn’t filter! And then, thankfully, for any future individual connections with whales, she let go of the stereotype altogether.

Having conversations with individuals unhampered by stereotypical expectations is a much more accurate and respectful way to relate to whales and to learn what they have to tell us and teach us.

whaleswim

A whale named Uncle has this to say about the archetype of whales being the keepers of the earth’s wisdom

“Wisdom comes from souls, not species. All whales are not highly evolved beings with lofty abilities to heal the planet or humans in miraculous ways. Like humans, some are more evolved than others. Like humans, some of us have expansive purposes and are involved in the healing of individuals and the planet. Some are leaders and some lead more quiet lives with purposes centered around their own private life lessons. Our roles and life purposes are varied–just like yours.

There are whales who come to earth to focus on learning simply what it’s like to be a whale. Others come to also be spiritual leaders or healers–just like it is with humans. We are not, as some people believe, the ‘keepers of wisdom’ any more than any other species. You have the capability to access wisdom through your own soul, and through your own relationship with God, the Divine. Whales, as a group are no better with this than you.”

3. Sandy Karbowski: Sorting out all those voices in your head

I’m happy to share Sandy’s story, a wonderful healer I was able to work with. Perhaps, you can relate to her story. sandyLike all of you reading this post, I am an animal lover. Always have been. I’ve had many in my life and still do. I’ve worked with horses in my teens and as a professional dog groomer for 17 years now.

Also, like many of you, I am intuitive, sensitive to energies, vibrations, and all other types of things, as well as being an Empath.

I would listen to speakers giving seminars who were able to communicate with animals. “What a wonderful thing to be able to do!” I would think. Then I always wondered why I wasn’t able to do it. I certainly loved animals, spent my life with them, worked with them, and I am most definitely intuitive. It wasn’t for lack of wanting to, or even trying to. How do these people do it and apparently so easily? Was there something wrong with me or my intuitive abilities?

I signed up to take a teleclass on “Help For the Sensitive” being given by Ronni Ann Hall through the Animal Spirit Network at that time. Boy, did I ever need help there! Seems I was such an energetic sponge, soaking up all of the frankly crappy energy surrounding me from everywhere. God knows I had tried to put up my protections, etcetera, seemingly to no avail. I know I needed this class, so I took it.

I just clicked with Ronni’s energy, so I looked up her website. Low and behold, she was offering a mentorship on animal communication, among other topics, through her Fairy Online School. I thought, “Damn it, I want to get to the bottom of why I can’t hear animals” so I signed up. I just didn’t believe that I could hear animals. I needed help from someone who did actually hear them.

Help I did get. I found I couldn’t “hear” animals because of all of the noise inside my head, all of the time! It was like trying to hear someone whispering something important to you while attending a Led Zeppelin concert listening to “Whole Lotta Love” live. OK, so I am dating myself. They were my first concert all those years ago and are still the loudest thing I have ever heard. Still love them by the way.

For all of you intuitive folk out there, did you ever know that not everyone hears all of those voices in their heads? I didn’t. I’ve heard them since I was a kid, so of course, I thought we all did. You just get used to all of that noise. Kind of like Moms and Dads who no longer hear “MOM, MOM, MOM, DAD, DAD, DAD, I WANT THIS, I NEED THAT, SHE’S HITTING ME, HE TOOK MY STUFF…..” You wonder how they can’t possibly hear all of that? But hear it, they don’t. They have learned to tune it out. Same with all of the noise in my head.

While working with Ronni, we found that I needed to put psychic gatekeepers or bouncers in place at my psychic doorways to only allow in messages that I needed or wanted to hear. I chose to place Red-tail Hawks at my doorways. They have always been special to me and are some of my Guides. Naturally I have a lot of animals and Faeries helping me. I’ll bet a lot of you do too.

We had the Hawks bar the doors. Silence at last! I never knew what that was like. Seems like everything was yakking at me all at once. If you haven’t experienced it personally, everything can and does talk. Trees, plants, clouds, rocks, people, animals, things that have passed on, etcetera.

Next we had the Hawks sort the messages to different psychic doorways using the directions right side, left side, from above, and through my heart space. We placed all things that were currently “alive” in this world to the right. All things that had passed to the left. My Guides messages above, and things I wished to communicate with to my heart space.

When the Hawks sorted the things that had passed to the left side and we shut the other doors, I found that like the kid in “The Sixth Sense,” I hear dead things. Lots of them! I guess I have some mediumship abilities. Who knew? It could explain why I kept hearing a voice at work saying “I want to go home” and other voices trying to tell me what happened to them all of the time. I thought I was just picking up on some crabby people! :) These beings are actually in between worlds I think. They aren’t here in physical form, but they aren’t fully on the Other Side either. I can hear from beings who are on the Other Side also.

When the bouncers were in place, I was able to immediately pick up on Ronni’s dog Emma Lou. I felt for her energetically as if I was petting her in my lap and she came through loud and clear. The funny part is she first appeared to me to be a small beagle, then a basset hound. I later found out that she had been a beagle previously and was now incarnated as a basset hound. Guess she appeared to me as both. How cool was that?

With the bouncers permanently in place, I no longer have to be bothered by everyone’s thoughts when passing them in the grocery aisles like “My son doesn’t call me enough”, or “I wish she wouldn’t have left me”, nor with the being at work who kept complaining that it wants to go home. I have learned to have control over my intuitive abilities. Thank God! It is a whole lot quieter in my head now. I can use my gifts more effectively to help others.

The area I specialize in now is as a medical intuitive and energy healer for animals. I am able to receive information as to where they have a disturbance in their energetic or physical bodies, how they might have developed it, or just whatever they wish to say about it. I then work with the animal to help them to heal themselves or their situations. The communication flows freely now and has become second nature. You could say I’ve become bilingual. I have an affinity for horses, birds, and the wild ones, but enjoy working with all animals.

I recently helped my friend’s horses when she was looking for homes for them. She is on the road a lot for work and wanted them to have homes where they will be ridden and spend more time with their people. Her little mare wasn’t sure about what was going on. I explained it to her, and that it was her turn to shine and show everyone just how smart she was. Did she ever! Everyone was saying how she seemed to be a completely different horse from the one they had seen earlier in the day. She got it. She also got a great home with a young teenager who has the same sense of adventure that she has. They will be exploring the world together for a long time to come.

I don’t only hear animals when I work with them. I can hear them all of the time if I want to It can be fun to hear what they have to say. Some of the dogs that I work with make me laugh out loud! Of course, people I work with think I am nuts and have no idea what I am laughing about. Nor will they! There are a lot of inside jokes with these dogs.

I went into a pet supply store that also sells birds and small pocket pets. The birds were having a major bickering match between them about who could eat where. The little lizard babies were so proud to tell me about how cool they were. The funniest part was when the Guinea Pigs started yelling “Run!” when the most obnoxious kid charged at their cages, yelling and banging on the glass. I had to move to a different aisle trying to keep a straight face.

So not only can you use animal communication to help animals, but it also enriches your life. I love to see the humor in life and apparently, the animals and other beings in Nature love to share it too. There is nothing quite so cool as conversing with a wise tree or hearing Hawks talking with you as they soar overhead. Or hearing your beloved German Shepherd calling the neighbors a few choice names. I wonder where she heard that from? Ahem. I have some pretty awful neighbors who are just cranking up for another night of noise. Sigh.

For all of you that have noisy heads like I did, get some bouncers in place. Take a mentorship to find out what will work to open up the flow of communication for you. It is natural that all things can and do communicate together. People used to know that ages ago. Some of us just need help to remember the language. It will change our world.

4. Morgine Jurdan: Letting Go of Our Animal Friends

morgine

Everyone who has ever had an animal friend, is eventually faced with their passing into spirit and few people are very prepared for this event. They are often overcome with grief, sadness, worry and are not capable of making clear, loving decisions from a place of love and peace. I would like to provide some guidelines to help make this a more gentle process.

Morgine’s Suggestions:

  • Instead of waiting until your animal friend is ready to pass, begin Celebrating Your Friend Now, today, at whatever stage they might be at. Find a stack of colorful paper or an unused lined notebook around your home, or perhaps a new Journal or photo album at your local Goodwill. There are also many online sites where you can create an account to make a digital photo album to print out. I love Shutterfly.com because they allow me to create a website of all the books I print for my family so I can share them with friends for free!
  •  If you have a camera, or one on your phone, take a couple photos now and then, with and without people in them! If you have children, ask them to draw some pictures and add them to your book. Decorate pages with colored pencils, stickers, and other things. Take five minutes and think of many of the ways this cat, dog, bird has added to your life? How are you different because of their presence? What has he or she taught you? Jot down some notes. Keep it out on a table so you can add to it every week or so! Today you could record their barks and purrs or chirps and take a video or two! Please don’t wait until  later.
  • Spend at least two or three minutes every day, thanking this Precious Being (or Beings), for being in your life! Tell them how much you love them, even though they might create a challenge or two now and then. They give so much more than they ever take! Then you will not doubt they know how much they were loved!

Animals focus on whatever brings them the most joy and happiness. If they are ill, they put that on the back burner, so to speak. They have no concept of illness or disease or anything really being “wrong” from their “animal point of view”. They will honestly share any pain or discomfort with me, however, they do not label it as bad or wrong. To an animal, it is merely something physical happening in their body and not something to fear.

Most animals have no fear of death. In fact, they most often sense it as only a “new beginning.” They are going to have an opportunity to have a new body and a new life and a another new adventure! What most often makes them “seem sad,” is our own fears, worries and concerns which surround them daily when they  are seriously ill, stop eating, or seem to be in pain. They are not humans and too often people “humanize” their thinking. They do not understand our sudden concern and increased sadness and stress. So they, in return, begin to worry about us!!

They may have thoughts like: “What is wrong? Why are you so sad? Why am I not able to make you smile anymore?” Their increased stress, can lower their immune systems as stress does in human bodies too. This stress does not help them to get better or pass with great ease. It only serves to confuse them, if we are not clear about sharing our feelings with them.

Naturally it can be difficult to let go of our beloved animal friends and yet, we know we all must do this at some time in our lives and theirs. Most people ask me what they can do to ease this process for their animal friend. The first thing you can do is give them “permission to leave”. “Duke you have been the most amazing, wonderful, loving dog. I am crying because I will miss petting your body and having you in my life. I love you. And I give you permission to leave whenever the time comes and you need to go into spirit. I may be sad and it is OK to leave your physical body when you need to leave.”  Something like that.

The other greatest concern is whether the animal desires assistance in passing or wants to go on their own. Each case is unique. Many animals have no problems going on their own. They do not experience a great deal of pain or struggle, again from “their point of view.” What might appear to be struggle from our human perspective, is often not really painful to them.

I had a dog who eventually could no longer walk at all, having had curved legs when I adopted him many years before. He told me he was leaving and did not eat or drink for ten days. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life to be with him as he peacefully experienced each day, with less and less movement and left with grace the only time I was gone for a short time.

You can check in yourself. Get as quiet as you can possibly be, away from others, the television or other distractions. Take several long deep breaths, imagining you are breathing in and out from your heart. Then ask Spirit for a “heart to heart connection” with your animal friend. Imagine a gold chord from your heart to theirs. Just feel love going back and forth for a couple minutes. Then tell the dog or cat you can allow them to go on their own, or you could ask a vet to give them a simple shot to relax them and then another to release them from their body. Wait a moment or two. Then ask, would you like to go on your own? Wait and see how you FEEL… peace or not?  Ask then if they would like assistance and wait. Do you feel peace or not?  If you feel confusion, then you are up in your head. The heart gives us clear answers.

Remember animals love us without conditions. If we are not hearing correctly, they forgive us. They do not carry grudges, resentments or anger like humans do. That is one reason we feel their loss so deeply. Few humans love us as deeply as our animal friends do.

If you take time to love your animal now, connect with them daily, appreciate their presence in your life, then when it does come time to pass, you will be better prepared to let go. You might be better able to tell what they need most of you and if in doubt, ask for help.

5. Julie Lines: Messages from the Animals’ Collective Consciousness

julieHello there! My name is Julie Lines and I was honoured to be asked by Ronni to write a post for her wonderful blog.   Many congratulations to you Ronni for the publication of your brand new book -  I can’t wait to read it.

Well, of course, I quickly said yes to Ronni’s kind invitation and knew straight away what particular aspect of animal communication that I wanted to share with you.  It is an area that I have been called to for many years now – something that I knew inside myself and that made sense to me. I believe that when you feel these types of things within you, they are callings for you to share them with the world. This knowing was that we are all one and are inextricably interconnected.

So, it was around 3 years ago I started receiving guidance that I was to tune into the collective consciousness of the different animal species and to channel their species messages for humanity as we moved through and beyond the 2012 marker.  As I commenced on this amazing journey, that I am still very much travelling now, I was given the most amazing insights from the animals about how we are really all one.

I knew in my heart we were all one, that we were all interconnected, made of the same thing and that we lived our lives attracting reflections of ourselves from all those around us, but I didn’t realise the incredible depth that this went to.

The animals continue to share with me how each species have a unique collective vibration, that they have a primary reason for being part of this big jigsaw puzzle called life. What I hadn’t fully grasped was that each unique energetic vibration is contained within the whole of each of us.  We are a part of the quantum holograph – which roughly translated means that everything outside of us is also contained within each of us too.  Forgive me if you already know this, but this really blew me away – it was like a much deeper understanding of what I thought I knew coming forward!  The animals are so good at bringing deeper understanding to us, aren’t they?

With this knowing, the animals have also been sharing with me that when we are attracted to certain species it is no coincidence.  There are imbalances within ourselves that are calling out to become balanced and the energies that each species holds within them will call out to us  (we will be attracted to them) to assist in the balancing….

At certain times we may find animals coming into our lives, either physically or non physically, they appear to assist us in rebalancing that which is out of balance within our own aspect of that energetic vibration.  WOW!!

With this understanding all of the ancestor’s recognition of this, in the form of totem animals or animal spirit guides, suddenly made even deeper sense.

To share a few personal examples, I am currently blessed to have a cat, Jack and a horse, Apache sharing my life.  Jack constantly shows me to remember self care and to balance doing with non doing.  Apache is teaching me how to be an empowered leader and to trust my intuition.  They are both so very wise and patient, thankfully!  I have also noticed that Butterflies keep appearing to me in myriad ways – their energy is all about the power of metamorphosis and for me this is calling me to be aware and to stay present around the needed transformations I am making in my life.

So as you read this, what animals are calling to you?  What energies/qualities do they possess that you are being called to become aware of and rebalance within yourself?  How can you embrace these qualities and bring them more into balance within yourself?  Take some time to think about the animals you have in your life and why they are with you.  Look up the meanings of the particular species in the various books that offer this.  I’d love to hear about your discoveries, so please do get in touch!

6. Nancy Windheart: The Spiritual Wisdom of Feral Cats

nancy

I’ve recently been inspired by the efforts of a local rescue group, Red Rose Inspiration for Animals, which is developing a Trap-Neuter-Release program for feral cats in our community (Sedona/Verde Valley, AZ). Feral cats are some of the most misunderstood animals in our society, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the feral cats I’ve known and loved, and who have been some of my greatest teachers.

My relationship with feral cats has made me a better person and a better animal communicator. Here’s our story.

freddie

 Freddie, My Cat Teacher

Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was on the faculty of a large educational institution tucked away in the pine forests of the midwest. Our campus was located close to a state park, which was a common “dumping zone” for unwanted animals. Many would show up on campus, seeking food from the cafeteria dumpsters and the kindness of humans–especially the young humans who had a habit of dropping their chips and peanut butter sandwiches everywhere they walked.

Many of these animals were cats, and not surprisingly, most were not spayed or neutered. Consequently, there was a longstanding and ongoing cat overpopulation problem on campus, as the stray and feral cats had litter after litter of kittens. Periodically, the cat colonies were “handled”–exterminated–using a variety of not-so-humane methods. And then more cats would move into the territory, and cycle would start all over again.

One day, a particular cat caught my attention outside the building where I worked. He was a black tom, had no ears, torn eyes and a scarred face, and a scruffy, dull coat. It was winter, and it was very, very cold outside. My heart went out to this cat, and I was determined to see if I could help him.

Fast forward a few weeks, and the black cat, Freddie, was living in my garage. :) I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that he got his name from the infamous Freddie of the horror movie…you know the one…because he was, at that time, a “slasher kitty”. I couldn’t approach him or touch him without thick leather gloves to protect my arms and hands, and he would hiss and spit and flail at me with his fully-armed-and-of-course-not-properly-trimmed claws.

He bit. He slashed. He was, on the whole, really, really nasty.

And I loved him.

I loved this cat with all of my heart. I knew, somehow, somewhere, that we had a deep soul connection. That we were meant to be together. That he was mine.

Freddie tested positive for FIV. At that time (more is known about this virus now), the wisdom was that he should be kept separated from my other cats to minimize the risk of infecting them. So Freddie lived in my garage…and later in a small addition…and with time…

…Freddie became my dearest, closest friend. He sat on my lap, let me kiss him and stroke him, and slept in my arms.

This doesn’t  happen with cats who are truly feral. What I understand now is that Freddie wasn’t feral–he was a domestic cat who had been socialized once, but had been on his own for a long, long  time. He  had a tough life on his own and had learned aggressive defenses–but once he made a decision to live the life of a cat who has a relationship with humans, he dropped most of his aggressiveness and became my teacher, my spiritual advisor, and my very best friend.

Freddie and I would sit for hours and just hang out together. We communicated telepathically; he shared deep wisdom, understanding, and his sweet love with me. When he was diagnosed with renal failure and needed subcutaneous fluids to keep him comfortable, he would climb on my lap and we would have a sweet communion while I gave him his injection. He never complained. He never minded. Being with me, sharing our love and our deep relationship, was worth it all to him.

Freddie became a lap cat, but he always hissed at me. It became our little inside joke. He would hiss at me, I would hiss back at him, and we would laugh and laugh. Years later, when a close friend of mine, also a professional animal communicator, talked with Freddie in the spirit world, he said, “tell Nancy, HISS. That’s it. Just HISS. She’ll know what I mean.” :)

After a few years, Freddie’s FIV brought his body down, and he passed into the spirit world in the year of my 40th birthday.

Two years later, Freddie came to me in a clear vision on New Years’ Day, and said, “It’s time. This is the year. This is the year you step onto your path and start becoming a professional animal communicator.”

And I listened to him. I listened to Freddie because I trusted him more than I had trusted anyone in my life. He knew. He knew everything.

Freddie continues to be one of my greatest spiritual guides. We communicate daily, and he continues to teach me and guide me, always reminding me of the power of love. Usually, his guidance is gentle and loving…but when necessary, I hear that unmistakable, kick-in-the-pants HISS.

 Feral Cat Rescue and TNR

Because of my experience with Freddie, I was determined to help the other stray and feral cats in my workplace and in my community. I learned all I could about ferals, including the benefits of a managed Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program, and I implemented a program with the help of a few like-minded friends.

We set and checked traps, and worked with a local veterinarian who donated spay-neuter services. We vaccinated and ear-tipped and released the cats back into their habitat. When there were kittens, we bottle fed them if we got them young enough; we handled them and socialized them if we could. Several cats ended up in the traps who were socialized to humans but homeless, and we worked with a local rescue group to find them homes. (My cat, Maddy, who is still with me, was one of those cats–he started as a “foster” and never left.)

maddy

The Spiritual Wisdom of Feral Cats

As my animal communication practice grew, I talked to many feral and semi-feral cats–some with rescue organizations, some in homes, and some in my neighborhood. And what I learned from them continued to surprise and inspire me.

Turns out, many feral cats are aware that they have a particular spiritual mission here on earth. Each animal is an individual, and so this is not true across the board for every single feral cat, but over and over again, many of them would tell me:

We are not here to have a relationship with humans. We are not interested in having relationships with humans. It’s not just because we are afraid and have not been socialized to humans, although that is the physical reality of our lives. Many of us came into this life knowing that we are wild animals…and have a particular job to do…and a relationship with humans is not part of it. We don’t wish to live in homes. We don’t wish to be companions. This would be distracting for us. We are here for other reasons. We often live close to human society, but we are not part of it.

Many of the cats showed me that they are doing particular, powerful work with the Earth’s energies. One of them said,

I balance the energies of the earth. Balance, balance, balance. Many of us do this work. It involves laying on the earth, in the soil, and balancing the magnetic lines of the earth. We feel these lines and these vibrations through our bodies, particularly through the pads of our feet and our bellies, and also through our whiskers. Our bodies are exquisitely sensitive calibrating instruments. We do this work as we live our lives–walk our territory, hunt our prey, live in our cat communities and raise our families. Our lives may often be short, but we do intense, powerful work while we are here. We are very aware of our mission and our purpose, and the gifts that we bring to the earth.

I am connected with many other cats all over the world who have a similar mission. We have a highly developed collective consciousness within our colonies and our species. We are very aware of the work that we have come to do, and we appreciate being able to do it in peace.

As I’ve continued to work with and communicate with feral cats, I’ve come to appreciate their unique wisdom and perspective, and the great awareness and spiritual teaching that they are able to transmit.

Telepathic Communication Tools for Working with Feral Cats

You can use telepathic communication, the universal language that all species share, to help you in working with and understanding feral cats. Here are some tips:

  • Accept that feral cats are not domestic animals. They are much more like wild animals and if they are truly feral, and not stray cats,  will not ever be tamed or socialized to people.
  • Respect feral cats for who they are. Don’t require them to like you, to interact with you, or to include you in their lives. If they do, consider it a great honor. You may find that they will allow you to observe their cat society from a distance, which can be a very beautiful experience. Accept them for who they are, and thank them for their presence in the world.
  • Recognize that even if feral cats do not wish to interact or socialize with humans, they can and do receive telepathic communication from humans. Even if you are not confident in your ability to receive communication from them, trust that they can and do receive communication from you.
  • Send communication clearly and responsibly to feral cats you are working with. You can do this by simply getting quiet, and focusing your feelings, heart, and intentions on communicating with the cats. Send them clear emotions of understanding, respect, and compassion. if you are trapping cats, you can send them pictures of being treated quickly and gently, being released, and being cared for in their territory with a supply of food, water, and shelter. You can also let them know if there are dangers to be avoided where they are living.
  • To send communication clearly and responsibly, do your best to keep any strong emotions that you may be feeling out of the picture. Send your intentions and communications peacefully and calmly, with a gentle, honest, and respectful attitude toward the cats.
  • Express your gratitude to the cats for who they are and the special gifts that they bring to the world. Thank them for allowing you to be a part of their lives from a distance, and honor them with your respect and compassion.

8. Janet Roper: What’s Near and Dear To Me About Animal Communication

janetI received an email from Ronni asking if I would be interested in doing a guest blog post about what’s near and dear to me about animal communication.

But of course! I am not one to pass up an opportunity to speak about animal communication!

Like so many others who work with and around animals, I was led to animal communication by my dog Teddy. Long story short: I adopted him, he peed and pooped in the house, we worked with his vet and a trainer without the issue being resolved. I was sitting in front of the fire place one day when an ad for ‘animal communicator’ fell into my lap. Out of desperation (as so many of my clients call me!) I set up an appointment with the communicator and the rest is history.

What I love about being an animal communicator…

I love how animal communication deepens the bond between domesticated animals and their humans. The teacher in me delights in seeing when the human realizes they CAN connect with their animal pals in a deeper, more profound way. It’s amazing to watch the lightbulb go on when folks connect for the first time with their animals in an intuitive way.

I love how animal communication is a venue where people realize not only can they connection with domesticated animals, but the animals in the wild ‘get it’ too and are more than happy to have a conversation with humans.

I love how animal communication opens the doors for people to realize that animals have lessons for us and are our guides and teachers, when we are willing to listen to them and receive what they have to say in the way they say it.

What I love most about my own, specific role as an animal communicator is being the host of Talk2theAnimalsRadio, a show about animals, the animal-human bond and animal communication. Talk2theAnimalsRadio has been on air since the end of January, 2010. The show features weekly guests who are outstanding in their particular arena when it comes to working with animals and also features Talk2theAnimalsRadio Experts, who appear regularly on the show. Currently our experts are Darlene Arden, The Cat Expert (http://www.DarleneArden.com) and Rob Ragozzine, The Intuition Expert (http://www.NumbersByRob.com). And, because this is a show about animals and animal communication, each week we have an animal guest on the show, sharing their wisdom with us. How does it get any better than that?

Finally, what brings delight to my heart about animal communication, is that EVERYONE can do it, you don’t have to be special, or psychic, or have special gifts. As I like to say – Remember: U2CanTalk2theAnimals!

11. It’s almost here…making a book

Screen Shot 2013-07-24 at 8.04.25 PM

Sharing the process of creating a book…

Yes, this will be easy. Just put the class into a book. It’s already written.

Oh, no, where’s that drawing? Does it even exist anymore?

I don’t like that part, or that part, and that part needs rewriting.

What a mess.

I need a whole new chapter 8!

Now that heading should be on THIS page, not that page. Why won’t it move?

Stupid computer program! Why the heck won’t that picture go there?

Oh, it looks good. I like this.

What do you mean the drawing isn’t 300dpi? I changed it three times. It SHOULD be 300dpi.

Head really, really hurts.

That font looks awful. Why does that font look awful? I don’t know. Time for cookies.

It’s really coming along!

I should have added this. But if I add this, I need to add this.

Still hate that chapter. How can I fix it?

That’s what I forgot to include!

That picture still looks weird.

Now I have to move everything around again. Pages aren’t lining up. Why do I do this? Am I crazy?

I can’t even look at it today. Where’s the cookies?

Wow, I like how it’s coming along. Everything is flowing nicely. It all looks seamless.

OMG! There’s a huge typo! Why didn’t I see that? Am I blind? What else did I miss?

Two friends don’t like the title. Crap.

Cute title! That will work.

Why didn’t it upload? I sat here for hours and it didn’t upload? I need to smack someone or something.

Almost done.

What if no one reads it? What if ends up in the discount pile bin in Walmart? Maybe I should tweak it a little here, a little there.

Time to just jump into the fire. It looks good. Reads well. I need to stop picking at it.

One more change…

Couldn’t sleep. Wondered if I should add a paragraph to chapter nine.

I think I just had an entire dream I edited the book in my sleep.

Ah, acceptance. It’s completed. Uploading and ready to go.

Well, that was easy. Let’s do it again! Next book…

12. Working on new animal communication book

Heading for the finish line…

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 11.41.20 AM

I’ve been fighting Microsoft Word’s spell checker. It appears to be British. It wants to change color to “colour.” We’ve argued several times over sentence fragments that I thought sounded just fine. Okay, maybe it was a one-sided argument (HA! that was a sentence fragment! In your face, Microsoft Word!)

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 11.43.09 AM

My animals are happy to be in a book. For the woman who gave a review of my HELP! I’M SENSITIVE book on Amazon and complained I wrote about my animals, well, this book she will really hate, but animal lovers will love it.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 11.42.28 AM

Now my online class will be more accessible to all those who want to learn animal communication in a fun way.

Screen Shot 2013-07-10 at 11.41.48 AM

But I will still be offering the option to work directly with me and the book in a personal mentorship. Cool!

Watch for details here on the website for purchase instructions. I am so excited! Can you tell? My tail is wagging wildly.
