1. Laaaaady!

VANITY, THY NAME IS LADYBUG

Feigning death among man-bugs is quite common when asked this particular question, according to leading entomologists. It is only theĀ braveĀ or perhaps feeble-minded who would hazard an answer.

2. SkADaMo Day 15, 16 and 17

Matilda Funkhauser’s vanity was beginning to get quite a foothold on her.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

So here is yet another attempt to make up for lost time with SkADaMo. Three days = three sketches.

It’s a bit of a a variation on a theme I did for my 2009 Advent Calendar.

It pays to recycle, eh?

Also, lagged a day on PiBoIdMo, but caught up today. Whew!

3. Author Pictures...

...it's time again. I need to supply a picture of myself, and looking into the folder where I keep this kind of thing I find everything is out of date.
Here's my very first author's picture:

When I still had curls.
But it was a bit fuzzy, so instead I used this:
I refused to reconsider that one for ten years because it's black and white and looks like me and what else do you WANT you strange people! Then I had to admit I don't look like that any more, and changed to this:
But everyone agrees that looks NOTHING LIKE ME. To the extent that I've been at signings sitting next to it, listening to people complaining that I hadn't turned up yet.
Ah well.
Now I'm going through my photo albums, looking for something that definitely looks like me...
I think I'll go with this one which Sarah McIntyre took:

That should do, shouldn't it?
Or this?

5. Illustration Friday: Theater

Another blast from my past and from the show I had called "Five Easy Pieces"in 1987. This dimensional painting is called "Vanity" and suits today's Illustration Friday theme "Theater". I wish I had more pictures of it but it sold long ago and was way before I had a digital camera. There are many little details like a compact with mirror and a tube of lipstick on the vanity, ashtray with a burning cigarette and a small hand mirror. copyright 1987 Valerie Walsh

6. Oh, no...

I've been interviewed by the 7-Imp girls. Thanks, Jules and Eisha!

A note on the photo: I hate it*, but it's the only photo of me from the past 2 years that doesn't have a kid in the frame. (I'm the family photographer.) My mother-in-law, who is a "real" photographer, took it and had some fun playing with the color.

*I hate the photo--I must admit to vanity here--because it makes me look fluffy, shall we say.
