“Talitha-chan! I gots a question.”
“Is it from the e-mail page?”
“Nope. I wrote myself a letter with a question on it so you could answer it.”
“You wrote yourself a letter?”
“Yep!” *giggle*
“What does it say?”
“Okay, it’s from Jessie and it says Talitha-chan…”
“Don’t say who it’s from, you goofball! We know it’s from you because you just said you wrote the letter! Just read the question!”
“Shannon-sama no kowai…”
“What’s the question?”
“Okay like a zillion and three people wanna know how you find the beginning of our Fury of the Venom Legion Color Webcomic becuase they wanna read the whole thing from the beginning.”
Read LadyStar: Fury of the Venom Legion starting from Page One
“We made a customized category for our comic pages that lists them in chronological order, five pages at a time. So by going to the Fury of the Venom Legion Comic category, anyone can read the comic from the beginning.”
“Except the links are backwards.”
“Right. Click ‘previous entries’ to go to the next set of pages and ‘next entries’ to go back. I’m going to fix that next.”
“Yay! If you gots a question or comment or just wanna say ‘Hi Jessie!’ you can send me e-mail on my super-neat Jessie’s Letters Page and I might get some of my friends to help answer your question! Have fun reading our extra cool webcomic, minna! Ja ne!”

“Alanna-sama’s gonna help me answer a question about her warrior form from my coolest Jessie’s Letters page! Hi Alanna-sama!”
“Hey Hoshi, what’s up?”
“Okay, we gots this question from ‘Score’ and it says Alanna-sama, your balance is really good right? In Ajan form can you walk in a straight line blindfolded?”
“Alanna can do anything if she has her staff. She’s really fast too!”
“The Quarterseeker’s most powerful ability is that it gives me perfect balance. I don’t have to be able to see to use it’s powers, so yeah, I suppose I could walk straight if I had a blindfold.”
“Okay, so what if, like, you get knocked down? Does that staff keep you from falling?”
“What are you going to knock her down with? She can jump 30 feet in the air from a standing start!”
“Sugoi!”
“Well, let’s just say something runs into her in a fight. Does the staff keep her from falling down?”
“Probably not. It doesn’t make me invincible, but it does allow me to use my speed and quickness in combat without having to worry about momentum pushing me off balance.”
“Slick. If you want to read about Drum Major girl in a tough fight, check out this Chapter from Winterdancer when she beats up like five guys at once. Just plain win.”
“Hooray for Alanna-sama! If you got a question, send e-mail to meeeeee Jessica Hoshi on my Jessie’s Letters page! Ja!”

“Leila-sama! We got another e-mail question from my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page!”
“It is a question with profound meaning?”
“Uh uh.”
“It is a question that seeks the deepest mysteries of the universe?”
“Nope.”
“It is a question that will challenge our understanding of our existence?”
“It’s a question about being a drummer in marching band.”
“Oh, that’s easy.”
“Sometimes Leila frightens me.”
“Heheee… okay. The question says ‘In your story you said the drummers play a cadence. What’s a cadence?’”
“Cake question.”
“Cadence is when the drum section plays a rythym so the rest of the formation can keep time with their steps. We have four cadences in the Lions Band. The first two are full cadences.”
“That’s the one you start!”
“Yeah. Full Cadence Green starts with a roto-tom solo.”
“The other one is our ‘good morning’ cadence.”
“Full Cadence Gold starts with a full section downbeat and cymbal crash.”
“Good morning cadence?”
“We like to play Full Cadence Gold on Collins Circle over behind the school so if anyone in the neighborhood across the street didn’t hear their alarm clock we help them wake up.”
“Yay! Ohayo minna! It’s a bright sunshiney day!”
“Well, except for that one guy who stood in his driveway yelling at us that one day last year.”
“I think he thought we were trying to annoy everyone. Until we marched past his house in parade formation and played ‘National Emblem’ during after-school practice. His wife baked cookies for all of us the next day and brought them to the band room. She said he was so proud to have a parade in front of his house he almost cried. What a nice old couple too.”
“That’s cool. What are the other two cadences?”
“We have one called a ‘Silent Cadence’ if we’re marching up to a performance area at parades. There’s a couple hundred yards where bands aren’t allowed to make a lot of noise because it disrupts the bands in the performance area, so we play that cadence on the rims of our drums.”
“That’s the tick-tock cadence. All drum rims, traps and glockenspiels.”
“That’s the one that sounds like a carnival! I like the tick-tock cadence best.”
“The fourth one is a simple corps cadence. One snare plays the measure downbeats. We use that for starting formations on the field.”
“Now which one do we play in the tunnel at Brown Stadium?”
“Full Cadence Gold, baby.”
“Yeah!”
“Maximum volume. Maximum power.”
“Yay! Arigato minna-san! If you got a question or a comment or just wanna say ‘hi!’ you can send me e-mail on my Jessie’s Letters page and we might even get to answer your question right here on our site! Ja ne!”

“Shannon-sama! Looky! We gots another question from my Jessie’s Letters page!”
“It’s hard work to keep up with all the e-mail.”
“It sure is! This one’s about your book Call of the Huntress. It’s from ‘Sirea’ and they said ‘are we gonna put the whole story of Call of the Huntress online cause they really wanna know what happens next!’”
“We sure are! Call of the Huntress is the third book in the Ajan Warriors Series and it’s the sequel to Palace in the Sky, so we sorta have to continue the story, right?”
“Yeah, ’cause I wanna meet your big magical kitty-kat, cause I’ve never seen a midnight cougar with blue eyes before!”
“Well, I just might be able to arrange that after I get my treasure back and learn my powers as an Ajan Warrior.”
“Arigato Shannon-sama! If you gots a question or a comment or just wanna say “Hi Jessie and Shannon-sama!’ you can send an e-mail to meeeeeeee on my super-neat super-sugoi best on the whoooooole site Jessie’s Letters page. Ja ne minna-san!”

“We got another questionnnnnnnnn!”
“Who is it for this time?”
“It’s for Alanna-sama.”
“Hey Hoshi, what’s up?”
“We got a question on my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page! It’s from ‘Letter writer person’ and they said Alanna-sama, it says in the story time and again, and even in your profile that you’re very confident. How did you become so confident?’”
“Heh. It helps when you’ve got that mace and whistle and you’re in charge of the whole band.”
“Well, I wasn’t always in charge. I had to try out for Second Drum Major. I got a lot of encouragement from my friends in band though. When I was a freshman, I was the only girl in the bass line, but the rest of the guys in my section were always rooting for me. . .”
“What’s the matter Alanna-sama?”
“She gets kind of emotional about the Drum Major tryouts. That was the year I was a freshman and I remember the day she did her parade routine.”
“My whole section showed up in full uniform with their instruments for my tryout. . . and they stood at attention along the route I did my parade routine on. It was the first and only time that the bass line has ever done that at a Drum Major tryout. It was the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me in band. I was so proud to be a sousaphone player that day. The day I got the call that I had been promoted to Second Drum Major, all seventeen of the other sousaphone players called me to congratulate me.”
“The bass line is a unique group.”
“They gave me a lot of encouragement and helped me even when I made mistakes. They taught me how to build confidence in others and that’s how I learned to take things one step at a time and not to let temporary failures depress me. By teaching confidence, I learned to be confident myself.”
“They helped her learn how to march a brass sousaphone in parades. That takes confidence by itself.”
“Word. Those things are like silly huge.”
“My section taught me I could accomplish whatever I decided I wanted to accomplish. That’s something we want everyone in the Tree Shores Band to learn.”
“We all want to learn to be as confident as you, Alanna-sama! If you have a question or a comment you can e-mail meeeeee at my Jessie’s Letters page and maybe I can get one of my best friends to help me answer your question! Ja!”
“Ranko-chan! Looky, it’s our first question after we got my Jessie’s Letters page fixed and it’s for you!”
“Alright, hit me.”
“It’s from Niss and they said Ranko-chan, well, they didn’t really say Ranko-chan, but I added it. Anyway, they said ‘Ranko-chan, since you’re so cool…’”
“Oh boy.”
“Hey, I can’t help it if the intelligent and sophisticated fans of LadyStar think I’m cool! They’re here reading our stories, right? They’ve got to have some pretty serious smarts going. heh heh heh”
“errrr….”
“They asked ‘what does booya mean?’”
“Booya! It means ‘that’s right!’ or ‘way to go!’ It’s kind of a cheer. Lock and me used to shout ‘booya’ at Ski’s volleyball games every time she got an ace, so it kind of turned into a habit.”
“And now you shout it every time Hayashi says something about Pluto.”
“Exactly. It’s a planet, right Goofy?”
“Booya!”
“There you go.”
sigh
“Thanks Ranko-chan! If you got a question or a comment or just wanna say ‘Hi!’ you can send me e-mail at my super-neat all new Jessie’s Letters page and maybe I can get some of my best friends to help me answer it. Ja!”

“We haven’t had a question in a while, Hoshi. Did we manage to get through that huge list we had?”
“Nope, we still got zillions of questions to do, but this one gets asked all the time. It says ‘is LadyStar ever gonna be a TV show or a movie?’”
“heh. Most of the new people don’t know how long we’ve been here.”
“LadyStar was originally the background story for an episodic adventure game, and not long after that, we had a television show in pre-production.”
“Yeah! It was gonna be the same story as our books but with super neat animated magical attacks and stuff.”
“Since then, LadyStar was published as a manga, then as a Visual Novel. While those two projects were being developed, the story was becoming more complete and new characters were being added. Eventually, we pretty much had to make it a book series because there was just so much that had been added it would take thousands of comic book pages to tell the whole story.”
“Sugoi… a thousand page comic book. “
“So the answer is sure, we’d love to be in a movie or television show, but we’re pretty committed to this site and our readers, so anything new we try can’t interfere with what we’re doing now.”
“That’s right. We’re all about our readers.”
“Thanks Alanna-sama and Leila-sama! If you have a question, we’ll be starting up my Jessie’s Letters page again real soon. Ja!”
“Konnichiwa, minna-san! It’s meeeee! I got another e-mail on my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page and it’s a really good question too. Hi Leila-sama!”
“Hi Hoshi. What question shall we contemplate today?”
“Okay, the e-mail says Leila-sama, what is your first book going to be about and what will the title be?”
“Hmmm… that is a good question. You know what I’d like to write is a philosophical thriller.”
“Ooh, what kind of story is that?”
“It should be a story about a beautiful and smashingly intelligent musician who, with a keen sense of subtlety and a mind capable of finding deep meaning and wisdom, discovers an elegant, simple answer to a baffling and mysterious philosophical paradox.”
“Sugoi…”
“I think my IQ would go up ten points just reading the first chapter of that book. Or my brain would melt. One or the other.”
“It is the wise person who finds meaning in simplicity.”
“See? I knew Leila-sama would write the best book. I can’t wait to read it, ’cause I wanna be super-smart about philosophy like Leila-sama! If you got a question or a comment you can send it to me Jessica Hoshi on my Jessie’s Letters page! Ja ne!”
“The charity program. That was the big announcement, right?”
“Nope.”
“So what’s the big announcement, then?”
“Patience, grasshopper. Patience.”

“Hi! Um.. I’m Cici and Jessie said I could do an update all by myself and so me and Hikousen are gonna answer a question.”
“Maybe we should help her“
“Nah. Relax, she’s doing fine.“
“The question says umm…”
“Go, little bit! Go, little bit!“
“shhhhh…“
“It says ‘Cici are you gonna play an instrument someday’ Yeah! I wanna play the drums just like Jessie’s friend Leila ’cause she gets to make lots of noise! Right Hikousen?”
zzzzzzz….
“Hikousen says he wants to play the drums too!”
*giggle*
“yay!“
“Um.. oh yeah, if you have a question or stuff you wanna say you can send it to Jessie on her Jessie’s Letters Page!”
“WaaaaHOOOOO!!“
“Way to go Cici you did it!”
“I did a whole update all by myself!”
“Yay for Cici-chan!”
“That was pretty good.”
“At least she picked the right instrument.”
“Heh.”
“Hi Ranko-chan. I got another question from Jessie’s Letters and they wanna know if you ever lost in sports and stuff because they said if you lost the other side must have cheated since you’re so good at sports.”
“Only if Lock or Ski is on the other team. Well, seriously I’ve played against some tough competition in a lot of sports. The main thing is to work hard and do your best. Got to leave it all out on the court or the field because after the game its just all talk.”
“Have you ever lost a real important game or like a championship before?”
“Tons. That home plate out that Lock threw was a really important game. I think that’s why she made that throw, because her team really needed that out. She’s only done that a couple of times, but man, I’m telling you, it’s like one of those moments when you just have to stop and say you know, that was just a great play and there’s nothing else to say.”
“I wish I was good at sports like that.”
“The point is just to go out and have fun. Get in shape and learn the basics. Be a good sport. You’ll get better at the game automagically just from learning to be coordinated and balanced. Don’t worry about the other players and don’t be afraid to lose. If you lose and you let it get you down, you’ll never learn to win.”
“Thanks Ranko-chan!”
“Isn’t this the coolest? Kickin’ back on the late night shift. Talkin’ sports on the big site. Gotta love it.”
“Yay! If you got a question about sports or anything about our stories and stuff, send it to me Jessie at my Jessie’s Letters Page! Ja!”
“Gots another question and it’s about Pluto.”
“It’s a PLANET!”
“YEAH!”
“Lock steps up and we are tuned. Bring the questions.”
*giggle*
“Okay it’s to Talitha-chan and it says ‘What’s so great about Pluto?’”
“Well, I…”
“What’s so great about Pluto? WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT PLUTO!?!?!?!?!“
“Uh oh.”
“Okay Professor, the time has come to turn this planet into a celebrity. Make with the science stuff. Give me all the Pluto coolness in order.”
“It has an elliptical orbit, which makes it unique among all the planets.”
“Booya.”
“Hi! It’s meeeee! We gots another question from super neat Jessie’s Letters and Shannon-sama said she could answer it ’cause its about the story and stuff. Ooh! Did you see? We got all of the Dreamspeaker chapters published now and that means we got two whole books on our site!”
“Yep. We’ve got a ton of cool stuff now, and there’s lots more on the way! Okay, what’s the question from the Doofus Letters department?”
“Okay, it says they can’t think of the chapter but in one chapter you call Leila and then we went to the world with the monsters and stuff and they wanna know what happened to Leila?”
“Before we went to the Venom Deeps in The Palace in the Sky?”
“I think so.”
“That must have been when we started publishing some of the story on my Bookstore blog. We had an epilogue to Dreamspeaker where I called Leila because we figured out some of the stuff that happened in our dreams.”
“That’s when Talitha-chan was reading that super huge book too.”
“Yep. That was a draft of the story that we published before The Palace in the Sky was written. I know what happened to it too.”
“Ooh! Really? Tellmetellmetellmetellmetellmetellmetellmetellmetellme”
“Well, what was in that part of the story, and everything that was going to happen after Leila got to Hoshi’s house actually got put into the First chapter of The Palace in the Sky and in the Epilogue after Chapter 18 in Leila’s dream. So Leila going to Hoshi’s house isn’t in the story any more, but all the stuff that was going to happen after she got there is in the last chapter of The Dreamspeaker and the first chapter and Epilogue of The Palace in the Sky.”
“I get it! So it got rewritten so we could have more stuff happen and make it easier to understand.”
“Exactly, and if people read the Visual Novel and the previous versions of Dreamspeaker and Reflections in a Dream, they’ll notice the whole battle sequence in Chapter Twenty-Two is different, and that the whole home game and band performance in Chapter Twenty is new also.”
“Yeah those chapters are neat, except I still don’t get football.”
*sigh*
“Arigato Shannon-sama! If you have a question or comment or just wanna say ‘Hi Jessie!’ send it to me at Jessie’s Letters! Ja!”
“Konnichi-wa, minna-san! It’s meeee! I got a super-important question from my Jessie’s Letters page this time and it’s all about music so I’m gonna try to answer it.”
“It’s about saxophones. You’re the only one who plays saxophone except Alanna, and it’s not her first instrument.”
“Hey yeah! So I was gonna answer it anyway, huh?”
sigh…
“What’s the question?”
“Okay, it says ‘what is a soprano and an alto saxophone?’”
“This is cake for Goofy Bird. She’s got what, about eleventy zillion saxophones?”
“Eleventy zillion and three.”
“Heheee.. okay, there’s lots of different kinds of saxophones. Like really a lot of them, but the ones you see in band a lot are the ones I play the most. There’s a soprano saxophone, which is straight and sorta looks like a clarinet but it’s bigger, and then there’s an alto saxophone which is curved like all the bigger ones are.”
“So how do you tell the bigger ones apart?”
“Super easy. You can tell by how the neck is shaped. The mouthpiece on a saxophone is attached to a part called the ‘neck’ and that part is different on aaaaaall the different saxophones. On an alto, it’s just kind of bent once. On the next bigger one, called a ‘tenor saxophone,’ it’s curved up and then back down again. And on the big baritone sax it’s swirly. It goes all the way around in a circle.”
“Anything bigger than a baritone saxophone?”
“Yep. There’s such a thing as a bass saxophone, which is super big and has the same kind of neck as a baritone but it’s a circle about twice as big. And then there’s a contra-bass saxophone which is really big so you can tell it’s a contra-bass without the shape of the neck ’cause it’s like six feet tall.”
“Wow. You ever play a contra-bass saxophone?”
“Nope. There’s only about ten of them in the whole world. I played a bass once at the music store, though. It was lots of fun. Low B-flat on a bass saxophone sounds like the horn on a big truck!”
“That is awesome. We’ve got to get a bass saxophone for Doofus to play in marching band.”
“Yay! If you have a question about music or anything else about our site and stuff you can send it to me at my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page and I’ll see if I can get all my friends to help answer it. Ja!”
“Hi minna-san! It’s me! We got another question from Jessie’s Letters and Talitha-chan’s gonna answer it ’cause she’s super-smart.”
“Oh my…”
“Okay, the question says ‘In the poem about LadyStar it talks about 7 banners but there’s only six girls so where does the seventh banner come from?’”
“Hey, yeah. I’ve only got six banners in the Hall of Warriors.”
“Maybe there’s a seventh warrior.”
“Or, perhaps the LadyStar is the seventh warrior.”
“Yeah, but that Dreamspeaker Preview made it sound like the LadyStar was kind of mean.”
“Yeah, she sure messed up those Vulture Crest guys or whatever. What did that traveler dude say? She fought an army of 10,000 guys and won?”
“Sugoi…”
“Hope we don’t have to fight her.”
“Sheesh, we haven’t even figured out any of our powers yet.”
“Don’t worry! I’m the Warrior of the Rocks and I’ll zap anybody that wants to fight us.”
“O Rly?”
*giggle*
“Hehe…”
“I wonder who the seventh warrior is?”
“I know! Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting the seventh Ajan Warrior!”
zzzzzzz….
“Okay Doofus, what’s the deal?”
“It’s a question from my super-cool Jessie’s Letters page, and they want to know if anyone else at school is as tall as you except for Irina-san, because she’s taller than like everybody we know.”
“Alright, time to settle this once and for all. Boss, how tall are you now?”
“Five foot ten.”
“Miss Shannon?”
“Five eleven.”
“Okay, line up. Back to back. We’ll see which is taller.”
“Alanna might be taller than five foot ten. They look almost exactly the same height.”
“Stand up straight there, squad leader girl. We’ll put this book on their heads and see if it is uneven. Let’s see… ‘Astrophysics’ hmm… must be a Professor book.”
“Oh, my goodness…”
“Heheee…”
“Shannon is taller by just about one inch. Yep, she’s five eleven alright. One more inch to six feet tall.”
“Sugoi! So do you know anyone who is taller than you are Shannon-sama?”
“Nobody except Irina and a couple of the senior boys in the trumpet section.”
“Awesome. I wish I was six feet tall I’d be owning the volleyball court.”
“Arigato Shannon-sama! If you have a question send it to me Jessie at Jessie’s Letters! Bye everyone!”
“Hey Lock! Check it out. Got a sports question here for you.”
“Sure. What’s up?”
“Hi Tara-san! Okay, the question says ‘how fast can you throw a baseball?’”
“If they’re talking about pitching, look out. Lock can put some heat on a fastball.”
“My fastballs average between 70MPH and 80MPH. It’s not my best pitch though. I’ve got a much better curve ball. I can do an underhand softball pitch at a little over 50MPH.”
“Sugoi…”
“And those curve balls aren’t any easier to hit, believe me. I’d rather she play left field, at least then I have a two in three chance of getting on base. If she’s pitching, forget it. It’s foul tip after foul tip until she slams the door with that curve.”
“Heh. You’re too unpredictable for that strategy. I’ve tried that before and you end up yanking the curves down the first base line.”
“Ha! Only chance I’ve got!”
“Arigato! If you have a question, you can send it to me on my Jessie’s Letters page! Ja!”
“Okay, this question is aaaaall about Jessie’s Letters so I get to answer it. It says ‘how many e-mails do we get in a day, week, month and year.”
“Oh man, what do we have now, about 50 questions we still need to answer?”
“We got lots of them. Everybody likes to ask questions about all kinds of stuff. Let’s see… they ask about stuff in the story, and about Shannon-sama’s new book, and about our warrior powers (lots of questions about that), and about the mysterious stuff in the story, and about school and band and everything.”
“Remember the Professor’s character book? That thing had like 400 signatures. We got comments from everybody and everywhere! There were more Professor Character Book pages than there were in the whole rest of the site!”
“So how many e-mails do you think we get?”
“Eleventy zillion.”
“Yay! I knew Ranko-chan had the answer! If you have a question you can e-mail it to me at Jessie’s Letters! Bye!”
“Ne, ne, Shannon-sama! I got another questionnnnnnn…”
“You always have another question, doofus. You’re the most popular doofus on our site. Everybody sends you e-mail now.”
“Hehee.. but this one is about Hikousen!”
“eh.. eh.. Hik.. Hikousen?”
“Yeah! See? He’s always here too, but he doesn’t get any e-mail ’cause he’s always asleep.”
zzzzzzz….
“Why are you asking me about Hikousen?”
“Because you’re our leader in band, Shannon-sama! You know everything! Okay, the question says ‘how much does Hikousen weigh?’”
“How am I supposed to know? He weighs about a ton though because I tried to get him to stop sleeping on my math book and he’s still sleeping on my math book. I can’t even pick him up.”
“Maybe he’ll wake up if we give him more food.”
“No! Don’t give him any more food or we’re going to need a construction crew to move him.”
zzzzzzz….
“Hmmm.. guess we got to figure it out somehow. If you’ve got a question or if you can think of a way to get Hikousen to stop sleeping on Shannon-sama’s math book, you can send e-mail to meeeee at Jessie’s Letters! Ja minna!”
“Ranko-chan! Looky! I got another e-mail and it’s for Tara-san!”
“Hey Lock, Goofy Bird’s got more e-mail going again. We get one about every five seconds around here.”
“Hey, what’s up?”
“It’s your birthday today so they said ‘Happy Birthday Tara!’”
“Wow, that’s really nice of them, huh?”
“I’ve been telling you we get the best people to visit our site. They know all the birthdays and pretty much everything else. Amazing if you ask me. I can’t find my way around here half the time.”
“Thanks a lot everyone! You guys are the best!”
“Otanjoubi omedetou gozaimasu Tara-san! If you have a question or just want to say ‘hi everybody!’ you can send e-mail to me on my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page. Bye!”
“Hi Leila-sama! We got two more questions on my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page and they’re questions for you!”
“Let’s see if there are answers or if they are beyond our knowledge.”
“Okay, the first question says ‘how come you said Hoshi thinks she’s a saxophone player?’ I’m not a saxophone player yet?”
“You’re a freshman.”
“Yeah we have to make sure you’re an intelligent life form before we promote you to saxophone player.”
“We’re not even sure Hoshi’s from this planet yet.”
“Run for your lives! Space aliens are impersonating saxophone players at Tree Shores High School!”
“Heheee.. okay, the next question says ‘Leila-sama you like to read a lot of books. What’s your favorite genre?’”
“I like any book that asks the profound questions and seeks meaning in life. I like philosophy and myth. I like historical fiction and romance too as long as it isn’t silly and sappy.”
“I love romantic stories too but I also like to read about ancient history because there was so much neat stuff that happened like thousands of years ago.”
“You’d probably like some of the classic myths then too.”
“Arigato Leila-sama! If you have a question, you can send it to me at Jessie’s Letters. Ja ne minna-san!”
“Four questions!?”
“What can we say, boss? Drum Majors are popular around here.”
“Heeheee.. yeah! Alanna-sama has the most questions of anybody on the whole site! Okay, the first question says ‘if you have to go to all the events ’cause you’re in the band doesn’t that mean you can’t do any other clubs or sports?’ and they also want to know if you would wreck your instrument if you play in the rain.”
“There’s other clubs and sports?”
“Yeah, who do you think plays the football games?”
“Football games?”
*
“Don’t worry about it Yorozu. Leila’s a drummer. She does not know of which you speak. Being a member of the Lions Band is a major commitment. It’s very tough to balance it with other activities, because we play at just about every sporting event. We have had some people who can do a sport and band, but we don’t recommend it because class has to come first.”
“Yep. Gotta get that homework done.”
“As far as playing in the rain is concerned, we’re usually more worried about ruining uniforms than we are about instruments. Low brass doesn’t care about rain. We care about power.”
“Yeah.”
“Woodwinds might have some trouble with too much rain because it might mess up the pads on their instrument keys or reeds. We also clear out fast if there’s any thunder or lightning. Not much else is going to stop the Lions Band from supporting our school, though.”
“Okay, the next question says ‘what do you want to name your pizza restaurant?’”
“What’s the French word for onions?”
“Hah!”
“Very funny. I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it much yet. It should be something Italian-sounding though because I want to cook Italian dishes. I’ve got a great recipe for lasagna.”
“Ooh, my mom does too. She can even make Italian salad dressing. Okay, the next question says ‘do you own your own car?’”
“The hatchback of doom!”
“Yeah, I’ve got a little green hatchback that is my buddy. It’s really old, but it runs great and it gets me to school and back.”
“And it’s got enough room for two bass drums, so it’s got my vote.”
“Hehe, okay and the fourth question says ‘would you rather have anchovies or onions on a pizza?’”
“Ahhh! Nobody would ever do something like that to a pizza!”
“We’d never put onions on a pizza! Yay for Alanna-sama! If you have a question you can send us e-mail at my Jessie’s Letters page and we might even get to answer it! Bye!”
