We're a biannual, online-only journal publishing literary ephemera, visual art, music, and video. Obviously we want your best work, it hardly needs to be said (but we'll say it, just to put you at ease.) Beyond that: we don’t care about genre. There are lots of places to get Poetry and Fiction and while we’ll almost certainly publish some, we’re more interested in your unclassifiables, your orphans. This isn’t to say we’re averse to stanzas or stories (we’re not), but if you’re sending us a formal sonnet about your dog because that’s what poetry is supposed to look like, we will probably acknowledge that your dog seems awesome and politely leave it at that. We’re interested in the words and the sounds and the images, not so much conventional interpretations of genre.

Masque & Spectacle is a new online literary journal taking submissions for its first issue slated for September 1. We publish all forms of creative writing, including drama, literary journalism, and essays, as well as visual art, photography (especially performance photography), video, and sound art.

Siren is an online zine looking for artists of all genres who create new, edgy, and experimental work. We want work that pushes boundaries, that surprises in terms of structure and content, that provokes a visceral response. We want to be shocked. We want to blush. We want art that is provocative, raw and beautiful. We want art with wings, teeth, claws.

We welcome submissions from artists of all genres. This includes, but is not limited to, poets and writers of all genres, audio/visual and graphic artists, video and film makers, dancers, performance and spoken word artists, musicians, installation and fine artists, and photographers.

The submission deadline for our summer issue is June 30, 2014. To submit, send an email to:

Our guidelines are as follows:

Poetry – 3 poems max. 
Prose – 1500 words max. 
Audio/Visual Media – 3 to 5 minutes max. 
Visual Art – 3 images max.

As an online zine, your work will be free to all who visit the site. You retain all rights to your work. For more details, please visit our website.

Poor Yorick is now accepting submissions for its online launch scheduled for the fall of 2014. We welcome entries in any and every literary genre, and from any visual or audio medium, including, but not limited to, poems, stories, essays, profiles, digital video shorts, photoessays, scholarly articles, songs, short plays, and innovative writing and productions about lost objects and images of material culture: sculptures and paintings in the back rooms of museums or in hidden corners of public spaces; murals forgotten in plain view; lost photographic archives and restored films; newly discovered letters or manuscripts; knickknacks in attics; oddities and curiosities in misbegotten sideshows; forgotten stories that remind us of pasts that we cannot afford to forget.

In addition to unsolicited submissions, the journal’s editorial staff will occasionally identify a particular historical object, collection, exhibit, etc., and call for submissions inspired by the selected artifact. In addition, Poor Yorick works in conjunction with museums both locally and nationally to identify and encourage innovative works focusing on lesser-known and overlooked objects and images.

In addition to our poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction categories , the BR is calling for short, narrated videos that tell stories in innovative ways. Make us want to hit replay, over and over. We will include these in our spring issue.
