Crafting the Kidlit Novel - Four Week Online Class
starts October 6, 2014
One Bite at a Time: How Writing a Novel is Like Eating a T-Rex and Other Things That Bite Back
With Children’s Authors
Kami Kinard and Rebecca Petruck
The idea of writing an entire novel can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be when you learn how to move in stages. Children’s authors Kami Kinard and Rebecca Petruck break down the elements of solid novel writing, beginning with the hook and on through pitch, character development, plot structure, and practical tools for writing through to the end. Though the focus will be on middle grade and young adult writing, the tools are useful for anyone who wants to complete a publishable work.
NaNoWriMos! This class will organize your approach so you launch into November with a plan that will result in a novel-like construction and not simply 50,000 words.
Bonus Critique: Register before September 20, 2014 and receive a free five-page critique and 20-minute Skype session with Kami Kinard, redeemable within six months of the course’s completion.
In addition, you will be entered to receive a free written critique of the first chapter of your novel (up to 5 pages) from Agent Rachael Orr of Prospect Agency.
You have the option of registering for the four-week class for $250 or the class PLUS a 25 page critique with a 60 minute telephone or Skype conversation for $350.

Ready to kick-start your freelance writing career — or take it to the next level? My next Write for Magazines 8-week e-course starts on Monday, April 9. (The February 27 session is now closed!)
Last session, I experimented with a “Pay What You Want” pricing structure for the Basic version of the e-course with no e-mail support, with a minimum of $30. I usually charge $120, so this is a 75% discount off the usual price. I couldn’t believe what happened: Instead of having just a few people sign up for this version as usual, several dozen writers jumped on board.
Several of these writers e-mailed me to let me know that they couldn’t afford the old price and were thrilled that I was offering this discount. I had no idea so many writers were put off by the $120 price tag! So I’ve decided to continue with the Pay What You Want structure for the Basic version of the e-course.
When you click the Buy Now button on the e-course page, you’ll be able to fill in any price you want, but *I ask that you pay a minimum of $30.
And of course, as always I’m offering the Premium version of the e-course with eight weeks of full e-mail support where I’ll answer your questions and critique your assignments.
Not sure my course is right for you? Well, it is if you want to have success like some of my previous students, who have broken into these magazines with the queries they wrote for my class:
GRIT
E: The Environmental Magazine
Woman’s Day
Spirituality & Health
Black Health
Blue Water Sailing
Pizza Today
Flight Journal
Cottage Living
…and many more!
Please visit the e-course page to get more details, read testimonials, and download the FAQ. If you want e-mail support, don’t wait — I have only 10 spaces in the Premium version, and they go fast. And if you want the Basic version — pay what you want and I’ll see you on April 9th!
I look forward to helping you make your 2012 rock! [lf]
Success stories from my last couple of Write for Magazines e-course sessions are coming in fast: A few weeks ago, I was thrilled to see a student’s very first article on the newsstands of Barnes & Noble in Flight Journal magazine, and another student’s article in Redbook (her first time in a national women’s magazine, but not her first time in print). And then, another student wrote to let me know that the query she worked on in my last e-course session was accepted by Alive, one of the biggest health magazines in Canada…this will be her first clip.
If you want to write for magazines and don’t know where to start — or you’re already well on your way but want to break into bigger and better-paying magazines — my 8-week Write for Magazines e-course is for you. My next session starts on Monday, and because I decided to up my student limit from 10 to 12, I have two spaces left.
Please check out the e-course page today, and if you’re interested — sign up before someone else gets there first!
Thanks, and I look forward to helping you make your writing dreams come true! [lf]
Sounds like it might be a great opportunity. Right now my life is all over the place. Our baby went to college, my husband got a job six hours away, our basement flooded…..and I have to get the house ready to go on the market. Once life settles down I’ll look into doing a class. :)
So I am not the only one where life gets in the way of what you want to do.
Sounds like you really have your hands full. Good luck with juggling all of it. Hope nothing else is dumped on you. Enough, enough.

ANYthing Kami does is amazing. No kidding! :D
